Home World: Currently Draylon II, aka Kentanna.
Occupation: Refugee farmer aliens of the week
First Appearance: “Sanctuary” (DS9 1993)
Summary: These humanoids were expert farmers, and very proud of their calling. They had a distinct and unusual language, with syntax and grammar that completely stumped the universal translator at first. Their distinctive skin texture was partially caused by an unusual feature of Skrreean anatomy: their skin flaked and grew back at an extremely rapid pace, causing them to drop skin flakes everywhere they went (much to the disgust of many of those unacquainted with them). They were a matriarchal society, as males of their species were particularly emotional and belligerent, and deemed incapable of holding positions of any great responsibility. Skrreean females were commonly polyandrous.
For centuries, they served under the T-Rogorans, who had conquered and enslaved them, until the T-Rogorans themselves were conquered by the Dominion. The Skrreea escaped in the resulting chaos, and searched for the legendary world of Kentanna, a world of sorrows from their ancient sacred texts on the other side of “The Eye of the Universe”, where they would bring forth new life. The “Eye of the Universe” was interpreted as the Bajoran Wormhole, and while Kentanna was initially assumed to be Bajor, Bajor’s provisional government denied the Skrreea their request for resettlement, believing that three million new immigrants would be too much of a burden on the struggling planet. The Skrreea consequently settled on Draylon II, instead.
