So I just reread For Your Entertainment (hot hot hot) and was wondering if you could answer a question I've had about it! A couple times through the fic Dick holds back from participating or doing certain things, and brushes it off as "Not tonight" when pressed by Slade. Why was Dick so separated? Not that it's a bad thing!! It was so BDE. But I was just curious <3

Hi! Glad you found the fic hot, it was definitely a blast to write, and I don't mind answering at all :)

Dick was an observer throughout the scene with Slade and Jason because as much as he believed Slade to be someone who wouldn't hurt a person in this type of way, he was not 10000% sure, and not sure that once Slade got started Slade would necessarily want to stop in the middle to listen to Dick's instructions. And since Dick didn't see that as an absolute certainty, he wanted to be in the best position possible to make Slade stop if he needed to.

Which meant being as in control of himself and the environment as he could be - it's hard to keep focused on the potential threat if you're making out with your boyfriend or jacking off to the sounds he makes. He needed to sit and watch and have five weapons within reach at all times, and be Ready To Go the instant it became necessary.

(Of course, he's still human, and he was extremely turned on by everything happening, so at one point he had to force himself to take a second to step out so he could regain his cool and be what Jason needed him to be.)

Luthor's taste in decoration is… extravagant, as always. Thick drapes of cloth in purple and green — of course — with a chandelier big enough to crush even a superhuman twinkling away above the crowd. Sitting areas with thick white rugs overlaying the marble floor, a banquet table big enough to accommodate enough food for even the enhanced-appetite metas he's brought together, a bar doing brisk business even with its three servers, and a dance floor that's — for now — mostly empty. Everything polished and shining, decorated with the clearly practiced touch of some professional decorator or another; Slade can recognize the art on the walls as originals, and some of the sculptures on stands as worth millions.

The delicate classical music being played from behind a gauzy curtain — thick enough to keep the players hidden beyond the shadow of their shapes, thin enough to be sure everyone knows it's real people — permeates the whole room, lending the whole thing an air of high-price-art-auction that's never really been Slade's scene. The waiters that circle the room are blank-faced enough he would guess at either mind control or androids, offering flutes of champagne and delicate bits of things that pretend to be food to people like Black Manta and Ra's Al Ghul alike without any change in expression. Luthor's always made sure his supporting staff don't have any… unfortunate reactions to the things they see, and there's usually more than enough of things like that to go around.

Slade finds his 'companion' a ten minute walk into the forest, trudging back along the trail he followed in, a mix of boot prints layered over the tracks of the beasts. Plural, as is obvious by both the tracks, and the size and shape of the sack his witcher friend is carrying in one hand, the bottom just starting to soak through with blood. He'd guess three heads. Maybe four. Foglets, judging by the tracks, but small ones.

The boy is young indeed. Age doesn't leave many marks on their kind, but it leaves enough to tell, if you know how to read the signs. Perhaps one of the very last created, before the art of it was lost. Apparently he's skilled enough to have completed the contract, though. Interesting, because his hair isn't the white or grey Slade would expect. It's almost entirely black, with only one sharp shock of white near his left temple, hanging near to his eye. That's a rarity.

"The hunt go well?" he calls, in the split moment where the boy hasn't noticed him, head still lowered to watch his footing.

Jason shivers as he watches Slade inspect his newly laid clutch. Dick, his own belly still big and swollen with unlaid eggs, is an uncomfortable presence at his back, and Jason barely hears the words being spoken in his ear; the soft croons and clicks Dick is making in an attempt to sooth the pain and exhaustion he feels from the laying. His eyes are entirely focused on watching his mate’s large clawed hands run over the still delicate shells of the eggs instead.

He finds himself showing his teeth, hissing slightly as he curls his tail a little tighter around the small pile of eggs cushioned in the sand. Dick's fingers stroke down his back, over the harsh scar of Slade's mating bite on his shoulder, his lips following. Jason can't make himself lean into the touch, not with his nerves all focused on the slightest twitches of Slade's fingers, but he doesn't pull away from it.
