"Young Abe Lincoln Speaks" by Sam Gordon
Now that we're directly between Valentine's Day and President's Day, I can think of no more appropriate poem to listen to than Sam Gordon's "Young Abe Lincoln Speaks." The poem, chocked full of shank-sharp wit and heart liquidating "awww" moments, was written for Slam New Orleans's (SNO) costume/persona slam at the Shadowbox Theatre this fall. Sam, who started performing poetry in June, has been a fixture at monthly SNO shows and recently made the 2013 Team SNO (Team SNO!) squad.
