Okay okay so I have a question for you. Do you think Asa/ The Collector cares much about looks when he’s choosing his victims or picking who is favorite is. Or do you think it’s more based on personality/obedience and stuff like that.

I just wonder if he cares about like societal beauty standards like being thin or super pretty or if there’s more to it. (Like I want to think that I could become the favorite but also I’m not like supermodel pretty and certainly don’t have a perfect body or anything)

Anon, I have the same thoughts, even with all the slashers. I believe, and this is my personal opinion, but I think Asa has a mix between personality and looks. For the obedience part, it’s preferred if your more obedient, but either way you are going to submit to him no matter what. I can see Asa looking for someone whose easily manipulated and tricked, but there’s also the ones that can put up a mental fight. He’ll like having that subconscious control over your mind as he breaks you down in ways you wouldn’t expect. But for looks, I think he’s the type to follow the ones that catch his eye, but if your personality doesn’t match what he’d like, you’d just be another tortured victim.

Butttt, if you really catered towards his personality type, he’s going to make you his perfect specimen. He doesn’t care for body type, but he’ll dress you up to what he wants, altering the way you look for his own preference.

All in all, I think it really depends on your whole self, personality and all. God help whoever that is 💀, cause it’ll be no walk in the park to be this mans ‘favorite.’ You will be locked away, your only human interaction being his tricks and manipulation:)

What do you think of the recent horror movie remakes?

Ehhhhh, it's kinda win-lose for me. On the one hand a new interpretation of my fav slashers and new content to work with! Now updated with better graphics! On the other, I'm pretty starved for content and the ideas tend to be run-of-the-mill Hollywood drivel. And no new slashers to simp over.

What about you? What do you think of them? Any of them you consider better than the original?

Holy shit, good timing on watching Candyman - apparently next year there’s going to be a reboot film made, produced by Jordan Peele!

And Tony Todd will reprise his role!!

Everyone says Jason would beat Michael in a fight but forget that Michael is pretty much impossible to kill as well and not to mention Jason got his ass kicked by Freddy in Freddy vs. Jason and needed teenagers just to win the fight

Been watching some slasher fan films and the latest two I saw had some good parts, but annoyed me due to the fact that they tied the Cult of Thorn and H20 storylines together. I get the Halloween series and the multiple timelines are confusing, but H20 was meant to be a sequel from H2, not H6 - it was a reboot of the franchise.

That and anything to do with the Cult of Thorn and Halloween 6 just pisses me off in general.

No joke, if I could erase one Halloween movie from existence, I’d erase that one. That’s right. Halloween Resurrection and Rob Zombie’s 2009 film were subjectively worse, but H6 was by far the portrayal of Michael Myers that felt like the biggest slap in the face.

There’s something to be said about Michael’s nickname, The Shape.

I know this is a topic harped on a number of times, but it’s fascinating to me. For starters, the other classic slashers typically have motivations of some sort, even if it’s very simplistic. Leatherface wants to eat you. Jason wants revenge on the camp counselors that neglected him and killed his mother. Freddy just enjoys it (although there is an undercurrent of revenge there too).

But there’s no clear reasons as to why Michael does what he does - and I say that in regards to the first and most recent films (the siblings aspect being removed). Sure, you can speculate, you can theorize, but you’ll never truly know the answer. There is a fear of the unknown there. He won’t tell you. You can’t reason with him. Even in some of the Jason films, if you manage to replicate his mother in any way, it could buy you an escape - or at least more time. Here, there is nothing you can do but run...if you can.

Michael also doesn’t parade in front of you like some of the other slashers. He hides. He stalks. He gets behind you instead of bursting in. It’s insidious.

James Jude Courtney had an interesting take on the energy of the character, saying that when he got into the role, it wasn’t a case of thinking about it or deciding what to do. It just was.

That’s what makes the nickname all the more fitting. The other classic slashers have motivations, personalities, an understanding of something behind the masks they wear. With Michael, it feels much more hollow. That he truly is a shell of a person, leaving a trail of bodies in his wake. He can walk among us on Halloween night, disguised as another person in a costume, but underneath the mask - there’s a mysterious force we don’t understand. Darkness Incarnate in human shape.

Furthermore, in the case of these two films, you very rarely see Michael’s eyes through the mask. Like there’s nothing behind it. It’s almost as if the mask is his face. No emotion, barely any reactions. That emptiness sets Michael Myers apart - which isn’t to say the other slashers aren’t great characters, because they are. But Michael, to me, is the most fascinating and disturbing of the lot.

He truly is “The Shape.”
