LL: What up Slim? How’s it going man?
Slim: Shit everything’s good man.
LL: That’s good to hear man.
I know you just dropped a new video for your song “New Bitch” what else can we expect to see from you in the near future? Anything in the works?
Slim: well i got a song with Kevin Gates premiering on the source, should be out by the time this interview is out or shortly after, but other than that just finishing up these features and doing more shows that’s about all for right now.
LL: That’s dope man, how’d the song with you and Kevin Gates come about? Did y'all meet up and record together?
Slim: nah i actually got his verse through a producer i know and shit, he hooked the young boi up.
LL: Hell yea man that’s what’s up, what producers have you been working with lately? I know $ino Kartel has produced for you a bunch.
Slim: yeah my boy $ino Kartel aka Full Metal Preme is my main producer he produces roughly 80% of all my music either him or my boy Mike Knight from the rookies but other than that a variety I’ve worked with Key! Purpdogg, Snubnose Frankenstein, Trap Money Benny, K Swisha, Yung Icey just to name drop a few.
LL: That’s awesome man. You and $ino definitely got some good chemistry working together. I’m glad to see you really out here working with all these different producers. Is there any other artists and producers you really want to work with in the future?
Slim: in terms of big names or locally ?
LL: any one you can imagine in your wildest dreams.
Slim: well then def. Drake, A$AP Rocky, Travis Scott and ‘Ye from an artist standpoint, from a producers standpoint Pharrell, Rick Rubin, Zaytoven, and Metro Boomin just to name a few.
LL: For sure. So for those who don’t know, (myself included) what really got you wanting to rap and who are some of your biggest inspirations that you looked up too and influenced you and your music?
Slim: def. ‘Ye all day. I’m influenced by a lot more than just music. My everyday life kinda pushed me towards music you know just growing up watching my cousins rap my pops he used to rap i just kinda did it then after a while its like hey i might actually be good at this. I might actually want to make this my life
LL: I feel you man. It’s good that you’ve stuck with it. Who’s in your playlist right now that you’ve been listening to a lot?
Slim: Uhhh I listen to everything believe that! Nowadays tho I feel like Playboi Carti and Lucki Eck$ been putting out that heat for the streets I’m also digging Lil Uzi Vert too as well as Mick Jenkins.
LL: Hell yea man they def been killing it. So who are some of your favorites of all time? Could you give us a top 5 possibly?
Slim: oh yeah I can do that with ease Top 5: Ye, B.I.G., Cudi, Drake, Wu-Tang, in that order. honorable mentions: Lupe Fiasco, The Clipse, Snoop Dogg, and The Cool Kids
LL: Hell yea man. Def some of my favorites as well.
Being from New York, but living Upstate, have you faced any challenges because you’re not from the City?
Slim: Oh yeah man all the time.
Especially when I’m out of town and I tell them I’m from New York. They automatically think I take the Train and all that other city shit! Like where I’m from we only got one train station and that’s AmTrak.
“I also feel as though we often get overshadowed cuz we from Upstate and not the city. Don’t get me wrong I love going to New York City and have nothing but love for it but it’s def. a lot of talent where I’m from too. A lot of music scouts should look more than just NYC ATL LA CHI etc.”
They already got their peoples representing them and that’s cool but it’s like damn when Upstate gonna get some love you know ? Not just upstate but other places too like Vegas, Phoenix, Boston etc. we got talent too !
LL: Hell yeah man, same here. Every one think i’m from the City. That’s what i’m trying to do over here though you know. Put people on. From all over, any where in the world. What’s good with the Money Mxbbin’ situation though? Any group projects coming out? I know you guys are real tight knit like a family.
Slim: oh yeah we def. good man Wiz Mack working on a project, I’m working on my shit Splizy handling all the legal shit and making shit happen for the group. Shawney is finessing his Camera work so pretty soon a lot more visuals should be out man we all working.
LL: That’s good bro. Y'all are really out here. How do you feel like your sound differs from the rest of Albany? Being from Upstate myself I can def vouch for you and say you and your team are doing things a lot differently than most of these upstate new york rappers.
Slim: I mean we ourselves are outside of the box people so its just natural that we do things a lil unorthodox.. I mean I just feel as tho people especially where im from kinda do things the same way make the same kinda music u know and that’s cool but if u want people to really support or take notice of u ur forced to standout uk what I mean?
LL: Exactly, the thing with a lot of upstate new york rappers in my opinion is they all sound very similar, and a lot of them are older dudes still trying to sound like early 2000s.. But now it’s your turn ya know, we’re young dudes. And the youth is here to make a name. They had their time.
Besides rap though, is there any other things you like to do or want to pursue?
Slim: haha yeah that’s a fact I just feel as though more old niggas in general need to embrace the youth and stop acting old
and oh yeah def. I like to skate and shit but I fucking suck.
But long term I want to become a talent scout when I become older and be able to help put on who I feel is next up because I always have my ears to the streets.
LL: For real, get with the times ya know. Hip hop can’t grow if you don’t move forward and accept the change. Even if it’s weird new stuff coming out.
Slim: yeah its def some weird shit coming out.
But I feel like finally in hip hop there is music to appeal all types of people from different backgrounds and shit you know.

LL: Hell yea man. I embrace the weird stuff. It should be a full circle thing not just a box for certain people.
Slim: yeah that’s a fact I feel as though these radio stations and DJs should start pushing some of these local acts too.
My son Wiz Mack the hottest rapper from the streets out right now! Why isn’t his music being played on these stations? At these parties? My music speaks for itself why isn’t my shit on the stations you know and not just us cuz its def. other talented artists in the 518 but we don’t get no support from the DJs at all so I feel as though that’s another problem with the scene right now.
LL: Definitely. Every one got to work together. Especially with a small place like Albany man. Try and get in touch with some of these college stations. They may be able to help you guys out.
Slim: yeah I def should I mean shout out to LiveFreeManagement and the UAlbany radio station they play me from time to time.
LL: Whats your take on the current state of hip hop do you feel like it’s been a good year or nah?
Slim: I feel like it’s been a good and bad year in the same breath. I feel like it was great because a lot of projects dropped but in the same breath it was kinda bad because I felt like this was the year where everybody was copying everyone. However I like the state of the game right now because it’s more diverse than it’s ever been before.
LL: Very true, i know you’ve been traveling a bunch man the past year where have you toured and which city showed you the most love?
Slim: I been to NYC Toronto & Vermont. NYC def showed me the most love them and Toronto.
LL: That’s dope man, are you planning touring and who are you performing with?
Slim: Well I got offered to do a 16 date tour in FL but I couldn’t due to my scheduling so I winded up doing a couple shows round here on my dolo but 2K16 u gonna see me on stage with some big names that’s all I can say for now.
LL: That’s really great man i'ma have to come out for a show one of these days, i’m really glad to see you coming out of Albany and really doing something man, it’s dope and you deserve it bro, you stuck with your craft for years now. Any wild stories when you were on tour?
Slim: well I didn’t go on the the tour but the wildest thing I ever did at a show was get top from a groupie like a couple minutes before I went to perform and before I even got to hit the stage mad bitches started fighting, shit was wild them hoes was like 30
LL: Haha thats whats up man its lit, we will have to do this again sometime bro. I'ma be all over. So if you ever come out to where i’m at let me know ill hold it down.
Before we wrap this up, what’s your favorite album of all time?
Slim: and my favorite ohhh this a tough one
it might have to be Ready to Die by Biggie.
