Favorite Smell

I always knew there was a strangeness between us. Eva since I met you.

Like the smell of air conditioning.

Don't look at me like that, the first conversation we ever had was about the smell of air conditioning. How on a hot day, that smell can drive you mad with excitement. Like you ain't never smelled something more intoxicating and you'll never be able to breathe deep enough to fill your soul with that cool air.

(Laughs) Maybe it's the freon.

Maybe I'm crazy. I've been inhaling those fumes too much, I've lost a few brain cells.

(Beat)

You never do know when it'll stop, do you? This. Us. But it has stopped, hasn't it?

Everybody thought we were crazy for lovin air, didn't they?

Maybe you've lost that. Have you? Did you stop loving the smell? Stop breathing in the fresh freezer at the end of the day? Is this us?
