Tamlin likes to keep his hair long, all the way to his knees or more, back then. it was just nice, something that he felt like was just for him, for him to take care of, to have fun with that won't affect anyone else. in his earlier days as a high lord his closest friends learned to use it as a method to keep track of whether or not he was overworking himself, or not taking care of himself. nag a little without being too overbearing they would say 'your hair is dirty' and mean are you overworking again? 'thats not your usual braid' when was the last time you had time to take a proper bath and look after yourself 'your hair looks better' you had some rest? and his lovers (lucien, andras or both) would often use that to- well, you can infer.

and so, when he first met feyre, and well, had to say something nice. that was the only thing he could think of, 'your hair looks clean', you are in better shape, did you rest well? clean up? relaxed a bit more?
