I went into Umineko expecting "Anime Homestuck" as it had been sold.
Turns out it's actually "Anime House of Leaves"
Allow me to explain:
Multiple narratives taking place inside and outside of multiple layers of fiction with some in direct conversation with the audience.
Truth? What truth? There's only interpretations!
The moral can be summed up as "You have to be okay not knowing the answers and truth can sometimes be less important than how you live with your chosen interpretation of events."
Blue Text and Red Text.
Horrible child abuse depicted before asking the audience to consider that the adult was actually sympathetic and the child was wrong for carrying a grudge.
ARG elements that you either spent hours solving yourself or just went to Reddit for the answer.
Both books include segments where they are hostile towards anyone invested in trying to work out the deeper fiction.
The book you are reading and people who have read the book you are currently reading appear in the plot.
I like both just fine (House of Leaves more than Umineko) but if I had a nickel for every time in the past year I finally got to a story I wanted to read for over a decade and found that it spent the entire time baiting me with deeper truths before revealing that the mature thing to do is accept a closed cat box, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't much but it's weird that it happened twice.
oh yeah i bet you refuse to explain
