A project close to my heart and hope you will support :) Now, more than ever, the power of telling the true stories of girls of varying ethnicities is vital to the quest toward racial and gender equality around the world. Over the last few months I have been volunteering with a nonprofit based in the UK called Global Girl Project which provides leadership training to young girls from developing countries. A few of the scholars who have experienced this leadership program have shared their inspiring life experiences in a collection of short stories which will soon be available as a book that we hope to have published and in stores, schools, libraries and hands of our well-wishers later this year. We need your donations to bring this important piece of work to fruition and create some economic independence for our authors who will receive a percentage of the profits. I am sharing in my profile the link for the fundraising campaign which provides much more detailed information about the nonprofit as well as this particular project. My sincere ask is you kindly donate as is your convenience and interest in support of this initiative. And do share far and wide if you feel moved to do so. With much gratitude for your consideration! #globalgirlproject #smallcharityweek #book #writeabook #publishabook #girlsstories #elevatemelanatedvoices #haiti #india #sierraleone #rwanda #nepal #pakistan #brazil #girlpower #leadership #communitydevelopment (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBl-qCTjClI/?igshid=id35gh3ms3nd
I've been actively involved with the Irish ME/CFS Association since 1996*.
As it's #SmallCharityWeek, I thought I would highlight some of our work over those years:
- arranged over 400 local and national media interviews raising awareness and understanding;
- raised nearly €300,000 for much-needed research;
- dealt with thousands of enquiries of various sorts;
- sent out around 100 newsletters to members and some nonmembers;
- put people with the illness and their loved ones in touch with others through our telephone contact lists;
- sent out hundreds of e-bulletins to our members;
- tweeted and retweeted many messages on Twitter;
- organised dozens of talks with Irish and international doctors and researchers;
- organised dozens of screenings and other meetings;
- sent information bundles including posters to all Irish libraries, citizen's information centres, youth information centres, student support services in 3rd level colleges multiple times plus also information bundles to some secondary schools;
- sent around 7000 information bundles to Irish doctors
as well as other activities.
Apart from having someone do paid secretarial work in 1996, all this work was done by volunteers, almost exclusively people with the illness and their loved ones.
Like many other small charities, we don't have a high profile. But like many other small charities, I think we've made a difference
* I did a little at the end of 1995
