Studio Update/ Small Group Feedback

Above is an image of the metal portion of my final project. I hammered the edges of all the strips of metal and added texture. I then formed them in combination with the anvil and my hand with a guide. Then welded the strips together. There are still a bit more strips to form and weld together before attaching a hinge and lock.

In class today I discussed the progress of my final project with my group. They were on support of my ideas. We did notice that there are a lot of people in the class making wearables for this final project. Looking forward to seeing everyones hard work pay off during critique.

Small Group Feedback #3?

Today I met with Sage to discuss our final projects. Sage helped me realize that the engineering portion of the project will be a challenge for me since my project needs to defy gravity. I plan to use wire to help structure my work along with rope.

Sage’s project is really cool since it deals with her crocheting in public spaces.

Small Group Feedback 4/16

For this group feedback session I discussed my idea of combining the final projects for my fiber class and my blacksmithing together. I was fixated on this idea of a cage. This and some other parts of this project has inspiration from Louise Bourgeois. I decided to go with a face cage and focus on the expression of my self deprecating thoughts. There are some additional ideas in both construction and application that I need to think more about.

small group session #1

When thinking about crochet, what usually comes to mind is an old-fashioned grandmother crocheting something for her grandchildren. Our group decided to make something to break this kind of stereotype and to honor an old lady who attributes to public welfare and helps people. We will try to use different materials for crochet.

Small group feedback #1

Today we had a good start to the project. Our group decided on doing customizable dog and cat replicas that ourselves and others can participate in. The replicas will have a basic inner structure consisting of fabric and filling. The customizable exterior will be crochet and/or embroidery. In a gallery setting the replicas will be displayed with a documentary of the dog or cat with audio to coincide. The project is directed for those who have lost a pet or as a gift who have lost one. Although, other circumstances also apply, like moving away from a pet. We have also decided to each brainstorm separately on the construction of the inner structure and combine ideas later.
