If I text you after 2am don't trust me
Tell your boyfriend your girlfriend says hello.
You came back today. For a couple hours it felt like home again. We kissed and I felt your touch. I kissed your neck and curled up next to you when you put your arm around me. We shared our favorite blue pillow and for a second I almost forgot that you never left. But then your phone rang, I knew it was her from the look on your face. You told me not to say a word, so badly not wanting the moment to end I promised to be quiet. I heard you tell her what you used to tell me, but your eyes were dull and empty. I waited until the conversation ended before I managed to spit out the words I had been choking on since you texted me that Tuesday. ‘You were everything I needed, but I don’t need no more.’ My hands were trembling and my voice was shaky. I saw tears build up in your eyes while I walked you outside. We didn’t say much, but we felt it all. You hugged me goodbye in front of your car, and when I pulled away I felt you pull me closer. I felt your chest expand while you took your last breath of me, and I had to stop myself from begging you to stay. I untangled your tightly latched arms from around my waist and took a step back. I watched you drive away and this time my heart didn’t sink. I was used to you leaving, but I caught you wiping away tears in your side mirror, and I almost texted you reminding you that maybe our time wasn’t done yet, maybe it’s just until we meet again. But instead I went back inside. I threw away your shirts, and that stupid blue pillow, flushed all the letters you wrote for me while at work from 9-5. I showered until I could no longer smell you on me and I slept with strangers until I forgot your touch. You came back to me today. For a couple hours it almost felt like home. Almost. However you are no longer my home, and for the first time I was okay with that. You came back to me today, and I say goodbye to you. Because you were everything I needed that I don’t need no more. -this is the last piece of art I’ll ever write about you.
