Shark Fact
Smooth-hound sharks primary pray is crustaceans, molluscs, and small bony fish.
These sharks reside in temperate waters, and their biggest treat is over fishing and being by-catch.

The Smooth hounds are back at Reculver but be careful as the have taken steroids while they were away and are now fighting back.

Hi, On Tuesday 10th George and I managed to get out in the boat for a few hours in the evening off of Herne Bay. With a moderate to strong SW we decided to stay fairly close in and headed for the copperas channel, between the marker bouys. When we got there a large fishing vessel had finished its set and was heading off and we didn't start fishing until the tide had just started to ebb. Nonetheless we persevered and things were fairly quiet. We had several undersized bass and the usual dogfish mainly with the highlights being a hound just under the 7lb mark for me as well as a bass of nearly 2lb. With the tide moving quickly we were forced in after only 3hrs but it was just good to get out for a bit! Regards Ben Morris

Question from Shaun
Hi, Can you tell me where it is best to fish for smoothounds along the NE Kent coast please? Also is there such a thing as the best wind direction for smoothound fishing from the beach? Thank you in anticipation Shaun.
Hi Shaun
If you fish between Reculver railings and Minnis Bay there are Hounds all along this 4mile stretch of coast, Hounds don’t mind any wind conditions but the weed makes it very hard fishing when the wind comes in from the north .Because of the weed this year most of the Hounds have been caught over the high tide, about 2 hours either side as the tide loses its strength has been best.
Hope this helps
