#9: Smooth Opera-Tor

Of which Milo kinda has to be one.

Milo was the star of the show here, quite literally. Smooth Opera-Tor had Milo earning extra credit, trying to buy pistachios from Cavendish and Dakota, acting as a techie (and an actual actor), all in the name of protecting the enjoyment hours of a girl he hasn't even asked out yet.

With this being our first look into one of the main romantic relationships of the entire series, it had to devote a lot of time to setup. But they managed to condense the entirety of the romantic setup to just a couple of lines, and used the rest of the episode to give Amanda a full sample of the Milo Murphy experience. He's lucky it went as well as it did -- though to be fair, Milo makes his own luck -- because otherwise, Amanda might come away with the same impression Zack almost came away with at the beginning of the series.

Smooth Opera-tor

Season 1, Episode 4, Segment B

Amanda schedules every part of her day.

She is using up 3 of her scheduled enjoyment hours to go to the opera.

MML New Year: Smooth Opera-tor I thought it would be nice to include the scene where they got pizza after the show.

”You know Milo, you could’ve taken off the bandana before we came in the pizzeria.” Melissa pointed out. She noticed how the other patrons of the restaurant kept looking over at their table.

”Yeah, but what fun would that be? People are recognizing me from the show. It’s nice to get a different kind of attention.” He looked down at his cast, recalling many times Murphy’s law got him dirty looks, especially from the mayor, whenever he tried to attend city events. ”Well, I think it looks good on you, much better than the other guy who quit after the first act. The finale was my favorite part.” Amanda gave Milo a little smile as she continued to eat her slice of pizza.  Zack chimed in, “Yeah, the opera was pretty dry up until Elliot ran across the stage. Who knew ducks were so persistent?” He reached for another slice for himself. But before it could reach his mouth, Melissa snatched it out of his hands. “Hey!” She took a bite, then spoke up, “I mean, you guys aren’t wrong, the show wasn’t much until Milo got onstage. And it’s nice to have a little reminder for the folks all around, that Milo Murphy doesn’t always destroy things, but he makes things better too.” ”Awww, thanks guys, you make things better too!” Milo said with a tilt of his head to show his genuine appreciation for his friends. They sat and chatted for the rest of the hour until Amanda’s family came to pick her up. It was a pretty good day.

I find it oddly amusing that Milo not only wears a tuxedo to the school dance, but his sleeves even have old-fashioned ruffles which are probably a fire hazard.

Note that he didn’t have them in “Smooth Opera-tor,” so clearly this is a conscious fashion choice that he’s made since then.
