❆ Jewel visits Nanouk to ask about borrowing books on her Gotei’s war history and discuss tactics, and that includes taking notes or being shown some strategies. Jewel’s a fast learner, especially when it comes to navigating a variety of geographical faces so I could see there being visual courses on tactics. Jewel views her as a teacher and is willing to learn from her.
❆ Nanouk showing Jewel swift braiding techniques for battle while also lowkey giving her shit for how messy her hair is and how it could get in the way of combat and Jewel’s just like, “Well I still like ta look good--” and Nan’s not impressed. Get outta town with those ridiculous bangs Jewel. No excuses.

♀ : A trope you catch yourself falling back too often?
Love-hate relationships because I’m gooey weaksauce for them in writing. Oh and everyone’s gotta have secrets lmao. Not literally but I have a lot of OCs with secrets/regrets/things they don’t wanna talk about. Alsooo pretty girls that’ll kick my ass and everybody else’s ass. I’m the weakest sauce for strong women.
✔ : What drew you to the character you currently play? What types of characters are you generally drawn to?
Jewel has privvy to being my first OC and growing and changing with me as I have grown. She’s a constant muse that’s easy for me to tap in to because she’s been my fictional buddy for so long.
Something that’s always drawn me to Jewel is how much of a doer she is and how independent she is. I like the idea of her thriving in solitude, but still needing the help of others to accomplish some of her goals, and accepting that she needs that help and needs to let the right kind of love into her life. She makes mistakes and ‘falls down on her face’ quite a bit throughout her stories but she persists onward and refuses to sit in slumps, even if she’s got tears in her eyes. She chases her goals and doesn’t let anyone stand in her way of them. She’s happy in the face of a challenge, even when she’s defeated by it she’s happy because there is still learning in loss and she values that. I love her humor… just imagining her beaten down, bloody mouth, grinning wide with someone else’s tooth in her hand, talking about how the tooth fairy’s gonna make her rich asdfsdgfd – I JUST LOVE HER A LOT ALL THE TIME forevur.
Generally I’m drawn to well-developed characters that have compelling backstories that show me where they came from and how they’ve changed into who they currently are. I like humorous characters with tragic backstories, crust buckets, the black sheep, expressive characters, those with a lot of power that don’t abuse it, grumpy characters that are soff underneath their onion layers of grumpiness, quiet ones that shoulder a lot of responsibility, mom and dad friends, the list goes on…
▼ : Are there popular head canons for your character that you disagree with? Why?
I don’t think Jewel’s that popular of a character that others are coming up with hcs like that tbh. I really can’t think of anything! :’’D
☯ : Greatest challenge to writing your character?
//yells
Getting her to form genuine, long lasting relationships with others!! There are barriers with Jewel that aren’t easy to break down because she has a hard time letting others in on a interpersonal level. She’ll talk, spar, joke around, and stir shenanigans, but for the most part it’s not about getting to know her. She doesn’t want the other person to deeply know the inside of her head. She wants to have friends and be in love but finds herself chasing faraway places of solitude more often than not. She feels like she uses people for their company to sate her loneliness just so she can go be alone again, and she doesn’t realize that she’s scratching that itch the wrong way.
Her weapon is a big problem that inhibits her from pursuing deeper relationships with others as well. Hyou is slowly killing Jewel as she tries to get better control of the weapon and she feels damned either way. Again, it’s another situation that she’s approaching the wrong way.
With Jewel, general interactions are at a surface level and tend to dive deeper into the other’s situation. I love that Jewel is a character that can interact with just about anyone, but it kills me how difficult she can be when it comes to befriending others and caring about them and letting others care about her.

HMMM CONSIDER: A joint mission with just the two of them sent in (or there are other Shini’s there and Jo and Jewel are the called in Big Guns.) Human world night patrol goes left when a gigantic black widow spider hollow ravages through the town (or maybe it’s already there and that’s why they’re there?) spitting out hundreds of baby versions of itself from its web booty to wreak havoc on the lost souls and spiritually aware. Turns out it’s a pet of my 4th Espada, Genevieve, and she sent it out to feed. Jewel and Jo gotta work together to extinguish all the creepy crawlies but the spider is smart and evasive and gwoss. I envision them chasing/cornering it in a cave and going from there.
What ships between your ocs would you have the biggest problems with, and which do you imagine would maybe become popular despite being terrible? It’s a question I’ve asked myself before XD
HOO BOY
Well any incest and pedo ships to start off. Bubbah and Lucy, Kennedy and Adelita. Jade and Opaline. Any of the Minamoto brothers together like that. Even the canon sibling-like ones like Adrian and Ame and Jewel and Chase– I don’t wanna see it lmao. No parent/child or cousin/cousin shit either- it’s all bad.
Another example: Secoiya or Hiroyuki (both well over 30) being paired with someone Lucy and Ame’s age (teenagers.) Not only is it a no it’s also OOC. My OCs aren’t going to date/sleep with someone that much younger than them. Sure some of them might date someone 10+ years older/younger than them but everyone’s gonna be of legal age.
Also not a fan of love triangles, infidelity plots/ships, or rape-y plots/ships with any of my babs.
As a general rule I’d want all the sexualities of my characters to be respected. Ex: Dana, Nori, and Opaline are lesbians so I wouldn’t wanna see them paired with any men. Orion and Arata are gay and would never date a woman. I have hetero OCs too and the same notion applies. Let the ace ones be ace, etc.
When I get around to the meat of my OU I plan to make a lot of the characters preferences obvious in one way or another. It won’t be shoved in the viewer’s face all the time ofc but there will be clear sprinklin’s throughout the stories and at the very least stated on their profiles.
*Other ships I wouldn’t like or would have a problem with (context matters):
- Airi/Tetsuji. Airi/Kakos. Jewel/Airi. Jewel/Selena. Jewel/Tetsuji/Kakos polyship. Koko/Celia. Leo, Kakos, and Hiteuuthus with most of the others tbh. Musei-me/Dominic (Jewel’s mom w/ Chase’s dad.)
Pretty well the ones I have that are endgame (which isn’t very many-) I wouldn’t wanna see them shipped with any of my other OCs unless it was like a past relationship type of deal (and there are some like that!) I’m especially attached to Jewel/Tetsuji at this point even tho i make them suffer so I’m not keen on shipping them with any of my other OCs but ofc acknowledge her past relationship.
**Ships I imagine that would mmmaybe get popular (or at least be seen) even though they’re Just Bad
- Snake Eyes/Eris. Leo/Selena (lowkey like the idea but they’re ultimately just Bad- fun dynamic tho). Leo/Eris. Leo/Jewel. Mayou/Bern. Chase/Varsu. Koji/Genevieve. Dextra/Minerva + some of the ones in the * section unfort.
🦋 If your OC could change everything (or just something) about their life would they? What would they change? What do they think would happen if they did? What would their loved ones think?
If Jewel could have refined control over her zanpakuto she would have it in a heartbeat. She doesn’t like looking like a crusty goblin that came out of the nethers of Antarctica. If she were able to have that it would eliminate a lot of problems. She wouldn’t be cold all the time, physical abnormalities would be gone, more emotional stability/less stress, and it would likely be easier to get close to people. Loved ones would probably appreciate that.
🔥 If your OC known for having temper tantrums? If not, what gets them really angry? What makes their blood BOIL? Is there anyway to calm them down or are they unstoppable? What are they like when they’re angry? Do they take it out on their loved ones?
Oh yeah there’s a temper there alright, but she’s not known for tantrums so much.
Anger is commonly assumed of Jewel because of her resting bitch face and how blunt she can come off towards others. It’s fairly easy to annoy Jewel and she’s expressive about it in that regard, humorous, and sometimes exaggerated. This is what most people see of her.
But true ohmygod boiling anger? It’s rare. She’s silent and the emotions are limited to body language; stiff body, clenched fists, a predatory dagger gaze, and glass-cutting cheekbones because her teeth are clenched behind her lips. Her reiatsu comes off less intensely, funnily enough, because she’s focused and containing herself. She’s not in the business of talking at this point and given the situation may resort to isolation and simmering down.
If she lets loose it’s exceedingly difficult to come back down until it’s out of her system. No one could easily talk her down once she crossed that threshold and those that would try are not outside of being harmed. Hyouhakyoku feeds on her negative emotions and in that state it’s a recipe for disaster.
One example would be her nasty break-up with Kakos. Jewel reached a breaking point with his abuse and she didn’t try to talk it out again, no aggressive tussles that would end in sex again… she just hunted him down and went in, they fought, and she lopped off his last fleshy arm as a symbol of him not being able to lay a warm hand on her (or anything) ever again. She didn’t care if it added to his laundry list of trauma. She was done.
☁️ What’s something your OC wishes they could forget? Why is this? Or, what is something that your OC has forgotten? (or do both!)
Anything I could think of that Jewel would want to forget involves Kakos, go figure.
One event that stuck out to me was during her Main Timeline where Kakos attacked her while she was in a weakened state. Jewel had gotten back from a tiring mission, challenged Koji, and lost. She got cooped up in the 4th division for days and just wanted to get away for a while, so she snuck out late one night and left her blade tucked in her bed because she knew she’d get caught trying to leave with it again. Only had her shitagi on.
Kakos was in the 4th at the time as well for a session in harnessing healing kido and was having a smoke before going home. He sensed Jewel leaving, made up his mind, and stalked her out into a wooded area. Before she could sit down at this quiet pond to rest he went in and wailed on her without warning. She could fare against him in hakuda but he was quick to draw his blade, push her against a tree, and impale her thigh.
It was his silence and the way he stared her down, and how he shoved his metal forearm against her mouth to stifle the scream that welled up in her throat from the pain. It wasn’t for fun or a mental break on his part; he just wanted to harm her.
Kakos wanted to get back at Jewel for taking his arm, and if other shinigami hadn’t sensed the commotion and broken it up he likely would have taken her leg. Jewel felt his intention and in that moment it left her in a mess of emotions. She was angry that he came after her while she was weakened, angry at herself for not being able to keep him at bay regardless of her condition, scared of him and what could have happened, and just tearfully upset in general; she was in a lot of pain.
They both got in trouble for it, Jewel for leaving when she wasn’t supposed to, and Kakos for a harming her to such a degree (neither would talk about the fight itself so Kakos didn’t get into as much trouble as he could have.) While Jewel would’ve rather forgotten that event it proved to be an important one for Kakos. He was made to undergo extra therapy sessions and take time away from the 11th division and it all served as a prelude to what would be his attempted redemption.
📚 If your OC was given some kind of forbidden knowledge, what would they do with it? Would they tell anyone? Use it for evil or good? How would it change their outlook on life, if at all?
It would depend on what that knowledge pertained to. I feel like regardless of what it was Jewel would keep it to herself at first and do personal research on it to find out more details if necessary. She’d be alone with her thoughts and really think about it. Ultimately she would want to use the knowledge for good. She’s chaotic but she’s not evil.
Jewel would eventually tell someone about it. Forbidden knowledge is meant to be hidden and repressed and to hold on to something like that would feel restrictive to her. She wouldn’t want to be responsible for holding on to that, and hell, it’d make for an interesting conversation. Airi or Tetsuji come to mind as individuals she would tell about it first.
I’m unsure if it would change her personal outlook on life at all due to the lack of context so I’ll lean towards no.
|| Want A Headcanon Between Our Muses? || @snakesonawave ||
I thought of a few for Jewel and Jo so here we go! :’D
i.) Doing little things to annoy each other. For example Jewel loudly crunching on ice to try to grate on Jo’s nerves, and there was an instance where Jewel was standing above the ocean’s surface and Jo surfed by Jewel and the splash of the water was huge and immediately froze over and Jewel got stuck in it.
ii.) Seeing who can run across the shoreline barefoot the fastest or the same concept but Jewel proposes the idea of a bed of hot coals.
iii.) I could totally see them having an argument over morals and behavior, like Jo questioning why Jewel seems so pissy a lot of the time and Jewel firing back with why Jo’s so obnoxiously happy all the time and how fake she comes off as, just... them misinterpreting each other by their outer layers and it firing up real quick.
See also: Jewel’s disenchantment with her job over time to a low point where she allows her comrades to get hurt in situations where she could have helped them and generally just caring less and Jo calls her out on it.
iv.) This one’s iffy but mayhaps a situation where Jo happens to see Jewel crying, doesn’t know why, just sees it, but doesn’t approach her because Jewel becomes aware of her presence and leaves, clearly doesn’t wanna talk. Conversely a situation where Jo is clearly upset and Jewel does approach and ask her about it. It was an idea I wanted to share because the actions would be opposing to their respective behaviors, but I’m unsure of the context of why either would be upset!
I finished the second bingo square (like two weeks ago) for @badthingshappenbingo
Once again this features characters from my original story, The Covenant that Fell. This time it features Rei Sasaki, a half-orc mercenary who has a penchant for mischief (always of her own doing) and Jo Mori, a Lycan mercenary who is always pulling Rei out of that mischief.
Jo belongs to @snakesonawave
It needed to be done, there was no other way across except by the ice. Rei locked her eyes onto Jo, who shook her head. She knew if she vocalized the idea, Jo would shoot it down. She knew if she attempted the plan, Jo would stop her. She knew a lot of things, all hypothetical things, but it did keep her from talking to Jo. Didn’t stop Jo from talking to her though.
“Don’t do it.” Jo mumbled as she stared down at Rei. “We can spend the time going around.”
“Yeah and find ourselves behind.”
“When did you hold yourself to a schedule?”
“When it pertains to a job that’s time sensitive?” Rei placed her hands on her hips and glanced at the ice. “I bet you it’s thick enough if we run across.”
“I don’t think that’s how ice works.”
“If you move fast enough--”
“It will still break beneath your feet.” Jo finished the sentence for Rei and placed her hand on her shoulder. “It’s a raging river beneath. It’s not a good idea.” Jo tugged on Rei’s shoulder, the smaller woman huffing.
“Fair enough.” she walked next to Jo, back hunched. “It’s just gonna take longer and we’re gonna get less money.” her tone was full of melancholy and disappointment. Jo wrapped her arm around Rei’s shoulder and gave a squeeze.
“We’ve got plenty of money right now. At least we’ll be doing the job regardless.” the comment didn’t manage to life Rei’s mood, but it did manage to get her to trod along with Jo for a bit. However, that moment was just a moment and Rei ducked under Jo’s arm. She sprinted for the ice, as quickly as she could. She knew it was a possibility Jo might catch her, there was no way she was faster than her, but she did have the element of surprise on her side. She felt Jo’s hand grasp at her jacket, but by the time she’d have had a grip Rei was already on the ice.
She slid a little and laughed while she did. Jo stopped on the edge of the ice, nearly tipping forward. She threw herself back and stared at Rei. Rei smiled, hands on her hips triumphantly.
“Okay… okay.” Jo’s voice was nervous. “Ha ha you made your point.” she gestured with her hands, directing Rei to come back towards her. “Get off the ice now.”
“Um, absolutely not. I think I’ve found a way across.” Rei took a step, her eyes wide as she did so. “Uh oh. Doesn’t look like there’s any cracks here.” she took another step and jokingly gasped. She repeated this practice of proving Jo wrong across half of the river. Jo didn’t look too pleased, in fast she grew increasingly annoyed.
“Okay, okay, you proved me wrong Rei. Now you’re just being an ass.” Jo crossed her arms and glanced around. Rei held out her hands and shrugged. She laughed and took another step.
“Jo, you should just come across. I haven’t heard a single crack or anything!” she bounced up and down on her toes, as if to prove a point. “For real Jo, I’m already halfway. Just--” as if the ice was proving a point to Rei, the first crack formed. Her bouncing stopped immediately. Jo paled.
Nothing could be said before the ice broke beneath Rei’s feet. She reached out for the ice around her and managed to stay afloat for a moment, just a moment for Rei’s eyes to lock with Jo, then the current of the river pulled her under. She was met with a brilliant deep blue and an icy feeling so intense her bones felt the pain of it. She hit the bottom of the river first, various rocks slamming against her body. The shock forced air from her lungs, what little she had to begin with. She clawed at them but found herself pulled away.
She hit the ice next found herself dragged along that. She tried, as best she could, to find a grip, but there was nothing. Black dots were already beginning to pull at the edges of her vision, so Rei pounded. The force she used was hindered by the water and did little to nothing. Her body began to slow and whether it was from the cold or the lack of air she didn’t know. All she knew was the little black dots began to loom large.
In a final attempt, she reached for the blade on her hip. Just as she was about to pull it out and bury it on the ice, another current grabbed her legs. The blade tumbled out of her hands, though it was grasped for desperately. She was pulled back down to the bottom of the lake and Rei fruitlessly clawed for the rocks. Her movements were weak now, little to no energy in any of them. While being pulled, Rei’s head hit the ground. She wished she’d have been able to feel the pain of it, it would’ve meant she was closer to life than death.
As darkness began to overtake her vision, Rei heard something crash through ice. She felt an arm wrap around her waist and pull upward, but she lost consciousness.
She woke to being shaken, aggressively and desperately. She felt a pounding on her chest and the muffled pleas of someone. She felt air flood into her lungs and her eyes flew open. Water was rushed out of her body, Rei coughing to oblige. Someone helped her up, so she could let it out. Rei dug her hands into the snow beneath as the water left her gasping for air. She coughed and wiped her mouth and noticed the snow stuck to her nearly purple fingers. Before a comment could be made, the person who saved her grabbed her hands and yanked her close.
“You really are an idiot, Rei.” It was Jo. Rei would know her voice anywhere and, Goddess, was she thankful to be hearing it now. “Do you always have to put yourself in danger to prove a point?”
“H-h-how else wou-w-would you t-t-t-take me seriou-seriously?” Despite her intense shaking, Rei still managed to be a brat. She heard the smile in Jo’s voice though, and it brought one to her own lips. Jo pulled her into her chest, strong and warm arms wrapped tightly around her body. The cold had settled in once again and Rei wouldn’t dare find herself speaking anytime soon. With the chattering of her teeth and the constant shivering, she was sure to bite her tongue.
“Glad to hear the cold is what will get you to shut up.” Jo reached around Rei, rustling with something before she pulled out a blanket. She wrapped it around Rei and began to rub her arms with her hands. “We’ve gotta head back to town.” Rei leaned back and stared at Jo. Jo scoffed, already aware of what she was thinking. “Forget the job, you’ll die from hypothermia. It’s not that important.” she scooped Rei up and began to carry her back to town. She leaned her cheek against Rei’s forehead and sighed.
Rei clung to Jo, and to consciousness. Her body still shook violently, but the warmth emanating off of Jo did help. Jo continuously glanced down at Rei and shook her whenever her eyes began to droop. Despite both of the friends best efforts, Rei found herself drifting off. Sleep sounded so good right now. She felt Jo break into a sprint and heard her name called multiple times. She tried so hard to hold onto the words but it felt like ice was spreading into her veins. Maybe if she closed her eyes it would go away.
But she found the ice eventually melted when there was no longer a sky overhead, but wooden beams. When sound grew more vibrant, she could hear the a roaring fire and the crackling of its wood. Feeling returned and she found herself under a warm, but scratchy, blanket. When she moved around, something incredibly soft brushed her skin. She rolled over, now faced with a shifted Jo. She was now a seven foot lycan, wrapped completely around Rei.
“Good morning to you, too.” Rei mumbled. She rubbed her eyes and yawned. Jo rumbled awake and pulled Rei even closer.
“It’s midnight. You were basically almost dead for half a day.” she didn’t sound too happy and Rei’s stomach fell to her ass.
“Oh shit, no way. I took your job?” Rei approached the subject with comedy, partly because she didn’t want a lecture or hear how concerned she’d caused Jo to become. But the main reason was because Death had knocked on her door, and Rei nearly answered. The thought chilled her. “Sorry.” Rei fiddled with the blanket. “I’m an asshole.”
“Don’t do that again. I might not… I got lucky this time.” which meant Jo gave it everything she had in spite of whatever panic there was. Rei didn’t respond, only stared at the blanket. Her stomach was in knots, she felt positively awful she put Jo through this.
“Sorry.” she huffed, a signal tears were being held in. “I really…” she didn’t finish her sentence and turned her face away. There was silence for a moment, but then Jo spoke again.
“You are an asshole. A really big one, but you have to promise me you won’t put your life in danger through stupid shit like that.” Jo squeezed Rei’s hand. “You can’t have my job, okay? You gotta promise.” Jo prodded, and Rei turned back to her with a small smile.
Are there any misconceptions people have about Jewel that bother you? Has anyone ever written a piece with her and she was portrayed poorly?
Ask me Stuff || @snakesonawave
Some misconceptions come to mind...
> Downplaying her power
I consider Jewel among the upper tier Gotei lieutenants as far as power is concerned. If Jewel had the ability to master her blade she could create an ice age - she will never master her weapon to this potential but that’s not to say that she isn’t packing a serious icy punch in the meantime.
It’s in her design to be a tank. She’s a masochist that numbs her body to take more damage. There is no instinct holding her back from chewing through someone’s flesh/tendons/whatever.She’s relentless and doesn’t always know when and how to stop even if her body is in no condition to be fighting (think Rock Lee standing from willpower alone against Gaara in their chunin fight - Jewel would be that fucker standing when she has nothing left in her.)
GRANTED. Jewel fancies herself some strong fucken opponents so it’s not out of the ordinary for her to get her ass kicked. But don’t downplay all of her power just because your muse happens to be stronger/ranked higher.
Can’t tell you how many fight rps I’ve done in the past where other rper had to win, like they were the types to be butthurt over losing and I just think it ain’t that deep lol. Let it be known that Idgaf if Jewel loses fights. She makes it look good. B;)
Also: She is very cold. I think people forget that Jewel exudes an uncomfortably cold reiatsu at all times even if she’s not flaring her energy and even when she’s tired. Obviously this won’t bother every character but itshouldbothersome.
> Downplaying her intelligence
She’s not an ‘11th division meathead/brute’, nor should she be summed up as simply as ‘a rude bitch that only makes dumb choices’. I think some people like to look at her outer shell and spin their own narrative without actually reading into the character more deeply.
Some choices she makes aren’t the wisest but she’s good at analyzing her fuckups and learning from them. She studies to improve herself as a leader and a fighter, and she’s shown to be a resourceful person in combat.
But I’ve made hcs about all that.
> She’s? Promiscuous??
No my friends. Three separate ships. Takes place at different times in her overall timeline. There are years in between each relationship because Jewel is in fact skittish about love and needs to heal and reinforce her fuck-off armor. Legit just think about it like a human being and the romantic relationships they would probably have over their entire life.
Now as for written portrayal thing - nothing comes to mind that was so bad as to say she was written poorly. Certain scenarios come up where I would think to myself “nah she’d do xyz over that thing” but the thing in question wasn’t awfullyterribly ooc to begin with. In situations like that where any of my character’s actions are a big ??? to any writer’s out there I am happy to answer any Q’s.
If she’s ‘portrayed poorly’ anywhere it’s been in art tbh. A lot of art I’ve gotten of Jewel was inaccurate in some way in relation to her design, usually the hair but it varies. I’ve been told by multiple different artists over the years that Jewel is a hard OC to draw, and that’s fair. Among other experiences and in addition to being hella poor rn, I don’t comm people. If I want something I will draw it myself or maybe art trade with someone I’m friends with.
