This is a bit of an intimate question but do you think Severus had any, you know, any partners after Lily's death? Maybe only carnal lovers? Do you think he's capable to love someone the same way he loved Lily? I hear this a lot about him being a "so-called" virgin by multiple people (some even shaming him of being one which I think isn't cool) but I want to hear your stance on it.
That’s an interesting question! It’s complicated for me because I tend to read Snape as asexual, so I don’t really visualize him as having much (if any) sex.
However, if you want to read him as sexual (which is a viable reading!) I think it’s entirely possible he had lovers during his adult life. I don’t think he ever came close to loving someone like he loved Lily - for Snape, I think he’s really only capable of that kind of love (whether it’s read as platonic or romantic) once in his life, and that’ll be about it. I don’t think that would necessarily stop him from having sex, though. Snape seems like the kind of character who would view sex as a necessary evil - like, he may do it bc it is a bodily need, but I doubt it’s something that plagues his thoughts.
I do think it’s also possible that Snape is still a virgin (which we absolutely shouldn’t shame Snape for, jesus christ why). Mostly because Snape just... seems to exist so totally within the world of his revenge in the books that it’s difficult to imagine him setting aside time to have sex, but also because I don’t know that Snape is the kind of character to indulge in sex with random strangers. He seems too paranoid and secretive for that - I think that if Snape had sex, it would have to be with people he knows... and I think for Snape, it would also be a matter of trust. He’s been mocked for his appearance for years, and that kind of thing leaves an emotional scar on someone. I don’t know that he could be comfortable being naked with another person unless he trusted them, and Snape trusts so few people. (Pretty much no one, except maybe Dumbledore which is just kind of.... gross. Dumbledore’s way too old for that kind of stuff.)
I don’t know! I like the variations of Snape in fanon that is a Sex Stud™ but I tend to lean more to the virgin theory because it makes more sense character wise for me. Either way, I don’t think Snape gives much credence or thought to sex - for him, it’s very much just something to be done when his body demands it, not a pleasure or drive.
