I am constantly trying to find rebody options for my Dawn dolls, as the heads always outlast the bodies. It’s been going…not well, overall. I’ve tried out everything remotely likely in my stash today, and these are the results.

6” Jojo Siwa doll: head fits, but falls off very easily. Standard Dawn in center (featuring minor version of aforementioned body-breakdown in the foot area). Mean lady from Annie, I think? Head fits technically, but neck is too short and looks awkward.

Two different action figure bodies, no neck pegs, so I’m out of luck there.

Snapstar on left, Boxy Girl on right, both necks too thick to get heads onto.

Little Miss Dollikin/Triki Miki on left, 8” Mego girl on right, same neck-thickness problem as above.

Dollhouse doll on left; she’s all one piece so head swaps aren’t possible. I think a Lesney matchbox girl on the right? Her neck peg is way too long.

Two actually feasible options! 6” Disney doll from the huge Ralph Breaks the Internet set on the left, and a mini Barbie on the right.

Older 6” Disney Princess on the left, neck peg too wide. Rockflower on the right, probably a feasible option with a decent color match, but I could only find the black one today, so.

Mini Princesses, mini Barbies, and Rockflowes are my body swap options. Unfortunately mini Barbies and Rockflowers aren’t any easier to track down than Dawn bodies in good condition, so.

The princesses aren’t exactly easy, but the Disney store is selling complete sets (which would be 14 dolls, 10 of them a decent skin tone for my floating Dawn heads) for $120. I can’t justify that much money on dolls when I just spent $400 on my basement renovation yesterday, so hopefully they’ll keep them in stock for a long time.

I got a Snapstars Vita on clearance at Walmart for $5, and she wasn’t packed very well.

Her leg is meant to be rotated into that nook, and then her knee bent, but it was crammed in there straight instead.

As annoying as this can be, I really don’t begrudge factory workers for this kind of mistake. Factory work is terrible.

Of course, her leg was severely warped.

Thankfully, plastic has a “memory”. It will remember the shape it last was when heated and cooled again, generally when it was molded.

It’s not 100% chance that a warped part will be able to reset itself when heated again, but it’s likely and worth a try.

It worked fine for Vita.

I held her in a mug of very-hot, just out of the electric kettle, boiling water so that her legs didn’t touch the sides or bottom and were free floating.

After a few seconds of nothing, it started slowly returning to the shape in it’s “memory”. I didn’t touch it, or bend it, or anything.

I have had some other dolls I’ve treated similarly where I had to reset the “memory” a few times to get things back to normal. Doing so isn’t difficult, though I do tend to scald myself.

have a dish of ice water nearby your boiling water

boil the part long enough for it to become supple (it might try to return to it’s correct position on it’s own and not be able to fully do so)

move it to where you want it to be with your hands, hold it in position, and dunk it into the ice water until it’s hardened again - this resets the “memory”

repeat as needed

This method also works for changing the position of parts, sometimes, like curling the fingers, etc.

After reading a post this morning about people making a doll of their ACNH character I felt inspired to hack up a Snapstar doll to see what I could do with the body. I’m not making an AC character or anything... I just have a lot of these bodies from hoarding for their feet heh.

But yeah I sawed two Yuki bodies in half and fused them back together with acetone to extend the torso. I also cut off the biceps on both dolls and connected them with wire to lengthen the upper arms. I haven’t decided if I want to glue the arms or not... or what will actually bind them. But for now they act as a cut joint as long as I’m careful with the arms. I also carved down the feet so they would be much smaller.

Going forward, I don’t have a head in mind for this body. I just wanted to mod stuff haha. I put a G3 Licca head on the body to see what it would look like and I don’t hate it. I do plan on cutting down the lower legs a bit so she isn’t so leggy and reducing her bust since it sits kinda high. That will happen when I can use my Dremel again.
