Yard au where snape was actually in love with petunia since childhood and the whole thing was lily was an elaborate way to get close to her that failed miserably
“The––the prophecy…the prediction…Trelawney…”
“Ah, yes. How much did you relay to Lord Voldemort?”
“Everything––everything I heard! That is why––it is for that reason––he thinks it means Lily Evans!”
“The prophecy did not refer to a woman. It spoke of a boy born at the end of July––”
“You know what I mean! He thinks it means her son, he is going to hunt her down––kill them all––kill her sister!”
“I––her sister?”
“Yes,” Snape cried, “her sister! Surely he will kill Lily Evans, and go straight for her sister!”
“I am––” Dumbledore paused, before continuing, sounding a little bewildered. “I would not think Voldemort wants anything Petunia Evans––”
“How could he not?” Snape howled. “How could anyone resist her charms? Her beauty? Her stunning personality?”
“It is real, isn’t it? It’s not a joke?” Lily asked. “Petunia says you’re lying to me. Petunia says there isn’t a Hogwarts. It is real, isn’t it?”
“It’s real,” Snape said fervently, “I would never lie to her. Ever. We’re supposed to be going to Hogwarts.”
“What about me?” Lily asked.
“Well, I guess you’ll be there, too,” Snape said dismissively. “But really––back to your sister––she said I was lying? Does she really think I’m a liar? What else did she say about me?” He ran a hand through his hair, which got stuck halfway through. He got it out after a little yanking, though it came away glistening with slime. “Did she noticed I used a new product?”
“Thought we were supposed to be friends? Best friends?”
“We are, Sev.”
“And in-laws, right?” Snape asked, keenly. “We’re going to be in-laws?”
“Christ,” said Lily. “Are you still banging on about my sister?”
“I wish…I wish I were dead…”
“And what use would that be to anyone?”
“Not about that!” Snape wailed. “Petunia! My Petunia! Got married to some beast named Dursley!”
“Ah, yes. Harry Potter. Our new––celebrity,” Snape spat. “I wish it were your cousin here instead, so I might have that pleasure of putting Dursley’s spawn through this course.”
Harry stared at him, bewildered. “Y––you know my cousin?”
“I know he should be my child!”
“Look…at…me…“ he whispered. The green eyes found the black, but after a second, something in the depths of the dark pair seemed to vanish, leaving them fixed, blank, and empty.
“God,” Snape whispered. “I wish you had your aunt’s eyes.”
“What,” Harry said blankly.
“That’s why I did this, you know––all for her––and you, the son of the estranged sister of the woman I loved so, so deeply––”
“WHAT?”
“All for…all for nothing. I had to bully you in place of that fat bastard’s spawn, when it should have been our children who went on to Hogwarts––” with that, Snape choked on blood and died, leaving Harry shaking his corpse and screaming desperately at him for answers.
