Severus is too startled by Potter’s unkind gloating to hide his hurt, “You surprise me. I didn’t realize you hate me enough to delight in my heartbreak.”

“That fool doesn’t deserve you,” Potter growls, “I’d gladly watch him wander off the nearest cliff.”

“Potter, what-?

“I like you. Immensely, Sna-er-Severus.”

Severus’s knees turn to mush, “Darn. That was beautiful.”

Potter beams, “It was?”

“You know it was,” Severus grumbles, “Now confessing I love you back feels more epilogue than final act.”

“You love me?” Potter goggles.

“B-but you shot down the symphony!”

“I had to. I was angsting, Potter.”

Potter might be slightly nuts. Bizarrely, his response to Severus’s loss of control is to chuck years of mutual enmity out the window.

“You’re the first wizard to tell me you don’t give a shite about me, Snape. It’s— refreshing,” Potter claims with a radiant smile. Severus is utterly bewildered.

Severus is correcting third-year essays when someone knocks on his door. It’s ten o’clock at night, so he’s understandably startled.

His visitor turns out to be Potter, who inexplicably blurts: “There’s a magical symphony orchestra.”

Severus frowns, thoroughly confused, “So?”

“We should go together,” Potter clarifies to Severus’s utter shock.

Severus’s hopeful heart starts galloping, “W-what does that mean?”

“It means I’ve been looking your way since you reminded me you’re no groupie,” Potter says, “It’s too soon to call it love, but I suspect it is.”

“Please. Sand&sea aren’t incompatible, Severus. They produce breathtaking beaches wherever they meet.”
