The lies and propaganda against the new Syrian government have reached the cannibalism stage.
HTS, which dissolved and no longer exists, are being accused of eating Alawites. In reality, a video of men eating a very popular Syrian dish with chicken, is being shared as "proof".
We've been telling you it's a media war. We've been telling you things have been exaggerated and information has bene purposely omitted to prevent Syria from being able to rebuild itself.
Criticize the government all you want, Syrians fought for the ability to do just that, but there is a difference between criticism/demanding accountability, and between spreading fabrications and falsehoods.
And that is the distinction most of you are neglecting these past few days.
Calling out the Syrian government for not doing a better job protecting Alawite civilians? necessary and important
Openly stating or implying the government is purposely trying to genocide Alawites? a dangerous lie that is propagated by some of the worst actors in this world.
Claiming there is a massacre of Christians in Syria by the new government? Another baseless lie
Claiming that 7000, or 1000, or even 700 Alawite civilians have been killed? Also a lie (X)
The confirmed death count of 803 people includes non Alawite civilians, includes Assad insurgents (who have also been responsible for many Alawite civilian deaths) includes Syrian security forces, and then also Alawite civilians.
383 murders (almost half of the deaths) were committed by Assad insurgents (211 civilians, 172 Syrian security forces) who have no ties to the new Syrian government, or "HTS".
420 individuals were killed by armed forces participating in military operations (this also includes factions and unregulated groups not part of the main Syrian security forces, some of whom acted outside of orders). Of these 420 individuals, there is no distinction between how many were civilians, how many were specifically Alawite civilians, and how many were Assad insurgents as of now.
However, 66 (39 children, and 27 medical personnel) are confirmed to be civilians. 115 civilians if we assume that all 49 women killed, were civilians, which is likely the case for the most part.
ANY and ALL armed forces who were involved in these deaths need to be held accountable and need to be severely punished.
However, these actions don't mean the government is deliberately massacring alawites or committing a genocide, especially because 1) as stated, it's difficult to confirm who were killed by general Security forces and who weren't and 2) the government's response to these atrocities.
The government has stated on several occasions that anyone who harms civilians will be held accountable with severe consequences. (X , X, X, X) You can choose to not believe, wouldn't be the first time a Syrian government has lied, but as of now, multiple confirmed arrests have been conducted. (X, X)
The fact President Ahmed Al-Shara’ issued a decision on March 9, 2025, to form an independent national committee to investigate and establish the facts surrounding the events in the coastal region between March 6th - March 10th 2025, with the committee expected to submit its final report to the Presidency within 30 days, is also a good sign. (X , X)
The Syrian Government delivered aid to a number of families taking shelter at the Hmeimim Airport in Latakia province after remnants of the Assad regime displaced residents in the area through violent attacks (X)
SNHR also documented that at least nine activists and media workers were directly targeted while covering clashes between the armed forces participating in military operations and non-state armed groups linked to the Assad regime in the governorates of Latakia and Tartus. Additionally, six civilian sites were directly attacked during the reporting period, all of which resulted from assaults by armed groups linked to the [Assad] regime. (X)
