Being played by Andy Serkis gives Snoke opportunities otherwise tarnished by his ugliness. Stick that fucker in a modern AU with cigarette breath and a beard and you’ve got the abusive mlm age gap ship of delightful nightmares.
I took a full day debating whether to say this but I watched nosferatu yesterday and ngl this is what my brain decided to think of
Kylo/Snoke
Ship It
What made you ship it? I mean, tbh I'm gonna argue it's canon in the abusive sense, like whether or not it ever got sexual/romantic in terms of that, I do think that the relationship they had was very Weird and Bad and extremely violating (deleted tear wiping scene from tlj my beloathed). And that's what made Kylo into who and what he is and I think it's important and interesting to dig into in that sense. I don't recall like, a specific moment of starting to consider it from that angle? But it's definitely been in my mind since very early on
What are your favorite things about the ship? It's interesting imo as it's very unique yet also not. This isn't a sort of dynamic that can exist in real life, as telepathy and stuff does not exist. But grooming does. Religious abuse does. Cults do. Militant radicalization does. Your predator cutting you off from everyone and leaving you stuck completely alone with them and convincing you that's a good thing does. Being trapped in a situation where the only way to get away from your predator is to kill him does. Being a "bad victim" (this is in quotes for a reason) does. And all of these topics I think are something that one needs to be able to acknowledge and understand in order to understand Kylo and everything that's going on with him. Plus I like exploring heavier topics and I think fiction is a great way to explore heavy themes like this. And, as you all know, I do enjoy when my blorbos go through hell lmao so. I guess I should be grateful to Snoke in that sense, as it's in no small part thanks to him that Kylo is the unstable wreck that I love so much
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? Hm idk? I guess I think a lot of people don't engage with it either due to it being uncomfortable to deal with (fair, it's icky, but that's the point) or the people who don't understand that what Snoke was to Kylo is an abuser, regardless of what choices Kylo made himself before and after. The second group do piss me off lmao, but I understand the people who are uncomfortable with it so. I guess my unpopular opinion is just that I would like to see more people willing to and being interested in dissecting this fucked up situation
