for me, the epitome of the problem with Leo as the sisters' Whitelighter came with his comment to Paige in s5: "As your Whitelighter, I say good job, cool potion. But as your brother in law, going up against your sisters is pure suicide." He can't fairly fill both roles at once, mentor and family member, and it did a disservice to the sisters because of it, usually Paige, because she was so often pitted against her sisters, and didn't have a truly neutral third party to talk to about it.
i see what you’re saying, but i think there can also be an added benefit to leo really understanding the dynamics of the household, and knowing what is good magical advice and what is good interpersonal advice bc like he isn’t dealing with like average witches. this isn’t just like a lone charge. they’re the charmed ones and they’re sisters and the fact that they are sisters has a lot to do with their magic and their strengths, so to offer those two perspectives is important. is paige was a lone witch, she’d be fine. but she’s not, and her magic is tied to her sisters, and to damage that relationship is to damage the power of three, and leo was right to bring that up. however, he is still Married To Piper. so like. he’s probably going to take her side. so like when there are issues, ie like when both paige and piper were on their superwitch kicks in nymphs just wanna have fun, like paige can’t really go to him. like she can. and leo might be more neutral than she might expect. but like. it’s weird. i don’t think she would want to. but i do think giving the sisters a whitelighter who didn’t really understand the ins and outs and the dynamic of the family would not be beneficial.
