saw your recent post (cool as shit btw that's really incredible) but I have to ask if you like ENA Dream BBQ?? I would not be surprised if that game's animation was inspired off of you or vice versa

Anyway, how did you learn to animate? I've tried once or twice but have been to intimidated to actually start. I can draw still images but I feel like it's witchcraft when you animators actually make them move

Thanks so much! I have to say I'd never heard of ENA Dream BBQ before (not much of a gamer, that is a random string of words to me) but a few others have mentioned it too- I can see the similarities! No association as far as I know tho haha, but it looks really cool

I started animating just before UNI and did it for my undergrad, but didn't engage in the environment tbh- I honestly learned to animate by sitting down and animating, I know that's the lame common answer but you really learn the most by doing. I've just started my masters (after 6 years away from school and a whole new attitude) and still have sooo much to learn (exciting). I also began animating in toonboom (a bit intimidating) but apps like flip-a-clip, procreate, even clip studio paint are great for getting a feel for frames and timing, keeping it simple helped me

To actually start out I'd recommend doing studies and the basics, do some small exercises on Disney's 12 principles of animation, do the bouncing ball, try a walk cycle, follow a tutorial you like on YT, do some life drawing. If you can draw still images draw two in different poses and start by adding a single drawing between them to see how it moves, how the timing feels. When you get sick of that try animating your fave character with their hair blowing in the wind, blinking, something small and fun to reset :) Especially if you can already draw it can feel demoralising to not be as good when you first start animating, but that just means you have a good foundation

I also think it helps to enjoy the process, though it can be tedious or frustrating. I know people make jokes about it being a pain but it's like bringing something to life, its awesome. And try to find some pride in whatever you make because you'll have learned so much to improve next time

This was my first animation over 10 years ago, I watched that A Lullaby for Gods and loved it so much I tried my own. You don't have to share your work cause I know that can feel vulnerable, but make what you like and keep what you make hasn't steered me wrong yet :)

Admittedly unsure why/when I followed you as we don't seem to have fandom overlap, but wow am I glad I did! Your art is extremely pretty - gotta look into all those animations you posted - and! Winx!!

I remember stealing my sister's magazines when we were little to read them.. barely remember any story or lore, but they're still a part of my childhood. As someone whose grown up to be leaning transmasc or butch, its really fun to see them redesigned in the butch direction. Very cool outfits, haircuts, and love the posing

Fairness to you I used to post way more often and way more specific fan content, but thank you! That makes me happy my current work got your interest :D

They were part of my very girly girl childhood too haha, even sharing the interest with my sister is familiar there. I appreciate the comments, thanks again!

Is your username based off Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo or is that just coincidence?

Purely coincidence which is crazy cause I literally have a six of crows tattoo now and it's my favourite book, but I made it back when I was 14/15 as like a two-layers-removed anime reference, the book didn't even come out til 2015

i loved the half a witch's duel animation snippet you posted here, when I found out the full animatic was on youtube i sprinted over to check it out and..... Ahhhhhh it's so good! 🌱🤯The way you animate willow's powers is so creative, especially the forest -- even in the show she mostly does vines so to bring out rhe trees was really cool. I liked how even hunter's bravado faded into sheer awe for a moment there.

I love the raw strength vs speed/evasion and training dynamic in the fight, and how Hunter looked more confident and playful while Willow is a little more nervous and defensive as a less experienced fighter... and the high five at the end! So cute I am LiVING!

Also, the choice of music was perfect for the mood of the animation. Basically 14/10 work and i will definitely be rewatching the animatic and keeping an eye on your blog from now on!!! 🤩💚

i’m so sorry if this has been asked before but what programs do you use to draw and what brushes are your most used?

all good! I've changed up my main ones anyway :) so all my pics are done in procreate on Ipad w an apple pencil, including minor animations. Bigger animations I use toonboom for.

These are the lineart brushes I currently use, the first more for illustrations since it's got more texture to it, the second for quicker drawings and animation since its a consistent brush.

I use this one for most of my colouring and shading (especially shading)

and these are the most common other brushes i use when not using the ones above- 'ink bleed' for the line texture in illustrations but Ive been moving away from it cause its pretty harsh, ‘nikko rull’ was my go to for shading with the cr stuff, and round brush is to get the flat colours in quickly. 

theyre all at the set at whatever the app loads them as cause idk how to mess with them in any way that would benefit me lol
