As week 4 of my 4th year as #ProfessorBrown comes to a close, I am overwhelmed with what I have witnessed that Black folks dance with each other. Whew! I’m theorizing this as Choreographies of Care - African-Americanisms. As faculty advisor for a student group, I had the opportunity to facilitate a conversation between the officers - four women of color. It was a very Black conversation. There was shared understanding. They were vulnerable, emotional, honest. They were so tender with each other. Tears were shed. Not everything was resolved. Yet we were able to care for each other, not throw deep, invested relationships away while maintaining boundaries and a level of self-care that is admirable + aspirational. They spoke of unlearning dysfunction. They used language that was clear and leaned away from blaming, claiming personal accountability. What if tenderness as a sign of strength, of ultimate care for our people? #dance #SocializationThroughTheArts #ChoreographiesOfCare #BlackWomenLead #AudreLorde #bbmoves (at Sacramento State) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFS-tvos2Gd/?igshid=b97vsf3qc2oq
