Hey, Hey, It’s Albert! Yesterday I posted on Instagram and Twitter about my fear of 🦇s and how one little fella had decided to hang out upside down on my fireplace for a big ole sleep. Faster than the Bat-Signal itself could light up the sky signalling my distress, followers reached out with several suggestions about how to handle the situation. One follower put me in touch with a bat expert, while another named the bat “Albert”. There was even an offer of adoption. Mark and I settled on taking @batsforlife advice. She suggested that “while it’s asleep, put on leather gloves and get a box like a shoe box, and put the box over it, and then slip a thick paper or envelope under it (just like catching an insect!). Then put a soft cloth in the box, tape it shut well, and poke air holes. Then release in the evening.” After following these awesome instructions, we decided to keep Albert in our pump house in the basement where it was nice and cool and dark. I am happy to report that Albert was released at 10:00 last night. It took him a good solid twenty minutes to wake up before flying off to bat land where I’m sure he happily gorged himself on mosquitoes after lounging all day at Chez Kauffeldt. Even though Mark did all the heavy lifting, I am quite proud of myself. I took the photos of Albert, and I even managed to stay in the same room with him, something I’ve never been able to do before. I may be afraid of bats but I would never want them harmed. They serve an amazing purpose here on earth and I respect them for that. I respect them even more when they stay outside. #bats #mutualrespect #socialmediarocks (at Cobden, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/BzMUm8lAY5J/?igshid=1atdwn564oq34
