Concept Art - Kids, Creatures, and Brumble

Here we go, some concept artwork!

I've been wanting to share these for a while. I've been drawing for decades, and it's great to finally get what I see in my head down on paper. =)

As you may have noticed, though, my work is pretty sketchy (literally). I tried to learn Photoshop back in the '00s, but I could never get the hang of it. I'm still open to learning, but I don't have the tech or the funds right now. Still, I'm proud of these, especially the kids!

Insights: (in order)

Milo ~ boy, 7 years old, lemon and lime flavors (same as Gummigoo). Originally named after what I read was a Greek word for apple, milos. This appears to be incorrect, sadly; however, it seems there's a popular Australian chocolate drink also called Milo, so let's pretend he's named after that instead. 🤫 He's the most adventurous and wants to be just like Dad, but by extension he's also a bit rebellious and sneaky.

Honey ~ girl, 5 years old, papaya and mango flavors. Named after the sticky sweet substance itself, with how her colors match the hues on a glass honey jar. Best compared to Miss Piggy sans love interest - likes being girly, but just as tough and stubborn as her brothers. Loves animals, especially horses.

Bilby ~ boy, 3 years old, blueberry and grape flavors. Named after bilberries (a type of blueberry found in Europe) and the Australian creature of a similar name, the bilby. Still very attached to Mom, but curious and learning independence from his siblings. Mostly ruled by his impulses, especially hunger. Going through his teething phase - so mind those snappers!

Kiwi ~ girl, 4ish months, kiwi flavor. Named after the fruit mostly; the word itself is pretty Australian as is. Won't develop her second flavor for another year or so. Not much personality as an infant; loves Mom, naps, gummy worms, and chirping for attention. Almost always in a sling pouch carried by her caregivers, usually Pomni.

Candy livestock are often multi-purpose and come in a variety of substances, but the main ones are toffee and taffy.

Toffee animals are hardy, strong, and bred to work and produce; their substances are plentiful, but more plain and require creative preparation.

Taffy animals are primarily pets or for sport / show / ceremonial purposes; these creatures produce less, but what they do put out has distinct flavor / texture that requires much less prep work.

Some livestock are bred for specific uses, such as bubblegum chickens. They lay chocolate eggs, which hatch into marshmallow chicks, which thicken into bubblegum as they mature.

Other animals aren't bred to produce at all, serving as pets or working animals. Such examples include licorice dogs and cats and cotton candy canaries.

This is Brumble, my attempt at a Digital Circus OC.

He's an ass.

My apologies, he's actually a llama, specifically made out of socks and various craft pieces. His look was inspired by toys like the popular sock monkey - but also by the messiness of childhood craft projects. I had in mind the bottom of the craft bin we had when I was growing up, dappled with glitter, paint stains, and random bits lost from their opened bags.

He is intended to be somewhat annoying. I wanted to create a character that would decidedly NOT fit with the standard TADC fan characters. I want people to read his scenes and go, "man, I'd like to punch him in the face" - and then smile when he gets punched in the next paragraph. =P

He will get a little bit of depth, but not for while yet. Until then, enjoy Punchbag Bob here. 😉
