Helluva Boss has some really cool and interesting concepts, just like hazbin hotel. Like the imp business and the whole concept of hell being divided into the 7 deadly sins and stuff. Being in hell you’re not actively being punished, but rather drained of hope. Everyone kind of leads a hopeless sad little life.
The execution just kind of sucks, like, there are so many plot holes and unanswered questions, that would really make or break a lot of things. Like, what happens if they die? Should they even be afraid? Why do they give a shit if humans see them? With whom would stolas get into trouble with if they get found out by the earth government? It’s not like there is any law enforcement in hell or anyone would give a shit. WHY IS NO ONE COMING TO GET REVENGE ON BLITZO AND THE GUYS? Come oooon, you’re telling me they kill people who most likely end up in hell and no one is mad?
It’s just so fucking inconsistent it drives me mad and I’m just scratching the surface. There is no red lining, no rules to the design, no rules to how this world functions. Listen, cringe culture is dead, I know, but these designs are just plain bad. Idc if they‘re ugly, they’re just bad. There‘s just too much going on on each individual character, that has nothing to do with the character and instead just serves the overall aesthetic. Like, almost everyone in hazbin hotel is wearing a bow tie. I know some little details are supposed to hint at the characters backstory or personality, but if you do that for every character AND add random little hearts or dots or whatever, it becomes hard to read the characters as anything else than „there‘s a lot going on on this quirky design“
What I’m really trying to say is, I feel like there is so much potential is these shows and all of the problems or plot holes just get brushed over, in order for the characters to have to kooky crazy designs and do kooky crazy shit. Aesthetic and tropes are more important than the actual story, characters or world.
That being said, I still enjoy it. I really like the little guys and I want them to be happy.
