Sofia wasn’t sure why she’d let herself get talked into this double date. Sitting here in the booth, squeezed next to them felt like playing with fire. Across the table, her boyfriend was chatting easily with the other female, not noticing the way Sofia sat a little too still. Under the table, though, it was different story. A brush of fingers against her leg. Hesitant at first, then bolder, lingering just long enough to make her skin heat. She kept her eyes on her plate, pretending to study it, but her grip on the fork was too tight to be casual. She should lean away. She should stop this. Instead, she stayed where she was, every nerve flared from that secret touch no one else could see. Finally, she risked a glance sideways, meeting their gaze. For a second, it felt like the whole restaurant had gone quiet. Sofia cleared her throat, forcing her voice to steady. “So… uh, how’s everyone’s food?”
