Maria Khoreva was a gymnast?
Look at these videos ahah:
The music choice in the first one is a very good foreshadowing for her first role major role in nutcracker:
Bonus, her sister Sofya Khoreva, also in RG:

It confuses me so much that Sofia Khoreva is called Sofia, but like, her affectionate nickname/diminutive is Sonya. Like to me that is a completely different name, and it doesn’t even shorten the name! In my head Sofia and Sonia are two different names. Same thing with Natasha furman, I thought that was her actual name, but actually her name is Natalia? In my head, those are two similar but different names!
Sofia and Sonya is bizarre, but Natasha being an affectionate way to say Natalia makes slightly more sense to me as a non Russian.
Shortening the name doesn’t seem to always be a priority, like for example the nickname for the name Alisa (Алиса) is Alicka, which has more letters than the original name.
while learning about Russian figure skating, for the life of me I couldn’t figure out who this “Zhenya” was and it took me ages to get it was Evgenija Medvedeva but also Evgenij Pljuščenko.
Wait until you find out that most of these affectionate diminutives/nicknames are unisex 😭😭😭
My favourite diminutive is Sasha btw!
Hey Molly! What do you think about Sofya Khoreva as a ballerina? I never saw anything about her besides what she posts on Instagram.
I don’t pay attention to students so I have never seen anything about her.
