it’s the middle of the day and you are lying on the couch
the sun is streaming in through the windows, bathing the room in buttery light
you remain in a state between wake and sleep, floating in the comfort of the white noise made by the ceiling fan and the warmth radiating from the sun rays that stream across your back and thighs
the clicking of the deadbolt being undone is enough to just barely pull you out of sleepy state
a quietly grumble leaves your lips and you can only muster enough energy to stretch your legs before settling back down
a quiet chuckle is heard near the front door, along with the unmistakeable drop of a duffle bag
“hey sleepy baby,” bucky says softly as he approaches you
you hum noncommittally back, wiggly a couple of fingers in greeting
bucky laughs again and there’s only one more moment of peace before you feel the space on the couch next to you dip
a grumble leaves your lips before a breathy squeak is forced out of them by the weight of your boyfriend laying down on top of you
he lets out another burst of chuckles and nuzzles his face into the side of your neck and face, taking a deep breath of the light scent from your shampoo
“missed you today bubs,” bucky mumbles, snaking his arms underneath your body to press himself in closer
“mmyeah?” you grumble back, eyes remaining closed as you blindly reach up to tangle your fingers into his soft hair
bucky hums an affirmative and gives you a few kisses to the side of your head before settling down
you and bucky lay there for the rest of the afternoon, basking in each other’s warmth and dozing in and out sleep :)

It was an early autumn morning on a mundane Monday in Brooklyn. Rush hour was just starting, the sounds of the cars passing by the apartment window as well as the gentle patter of the rain were relaxing. She didn’t want to get out of bed. It was warm, the mood was just right and she was wrapped in the arms of the man she loved. Bucky was still fast asleep beside her, mumbling incoherent phrases in his slumber, sometimes catching a few words that did make sense which made her quietly giggle.
She knew that once his nose twitched, he was starting to wake. Letting out a soft hum, he pulled his lover closer to his chest and sighed contently once feeling the weight of her head close to his heart. He was awake but was refusing to open his eyes, clinging to sleep, hoping he could find his way back to dreamland. Of course that got interrupted by the incessant meowing at the foot of their warm and cozy bed. The couple broke out of their bubble in a fit of sleepy laughter.
“Poor girl, you feelin’ left out, Alpine?” Bucky chuckled, finally opening his eyes. He had opened his free hand out to the white ball of fur, who greedily started rubbing her head on his palm. Alpine had waltzed her way up the bed and planted herself right on his chest, her tail smacking Y/N in the face as it flitted around happily. Bucky let out another sleepy chuckle when he noticed that his girl was getting assaulted by the cat’s tail. “You’re smacking your mama in the face, come here,” He patted his empty shoulder which Alpine quickly and happily took over. Now it was Bucky getting smacked in the face with her tail but he didn’t seem to mind.
“Good morning, handsome,” She smiled up at him, her voice just as tired as his was.
“Good morning, gorgeous. You okay with staying in bed all day?” Before she could answer, he kissed her lips lovingly, not caring about morning breath, just her.
“Wouldn’t dream of anything else.” Alpine let out a loud meow in protest, obviously hungry. “Maybe after we feed this little gremlin,” She laughed softly before sitting up and slowly getting out of bed. As she left their bedroom, Alpine jumped right down and followed her out, Bucky sighing softly once more. He was thanking whoever sent this woman into his life.
When she reentered the room, he took in her appearance. Her hair disheveled, the mascara that refused to come off now smudged under her eyes, her eyes bleary and still very much sleepy and her body practically drowning in his blue t-shirt. In her hands she held two cups of coffee, hers was in a mug with his face on it, which Steve had gotten her as a joke but now it was her favorite and his was in a mug with Sam’s EXO-7 wings on it, which Sam had given him as a housewarming gift, he would never admit it but it was his favorite mug.
He grunted as he sat up in bed, accepting the cup of coffee gratefully and pulling her back into his arms once she was sat down on the bed again. The two of them enjoyed the silence for a while, just listening to the rain and the cars passing by. Bucky started a quiet conversation that spiraled, the two of them talking for hours in bed, just enjoying each other’s company. Traffic was long gone, the rain coming to an end, their coffee cups empty, the music that Bucky turned on playing softly in the back. Of course it was 40s music because the man refused to listen to anything else, his guilty pleasure was Harry Styles but he never told a soul about that one.
“You wanna pick up where we left off last night?” Bucky asked her.
“Where were we?” She asked back.
He pulled the book from his nightstand, a gently used copy of A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, and opened it to the page that held the bookmark. It was a bookmark that she had made for him when she learned about his horrible habit of dog-earing pages, the design simple but it was the thought she put behind it, the color she chose the same blue as his eyes; a daffodil pressed into the paper under the laminate, his birth flower which he had learned once it was gifted to him; and the handwritten words ‘I love you, James Barnes’ sat neatly on the bottom of the bookmark. Every time he saw it, he smiled.
“Looks like we left off with going into a little bit of Jude’s backstory. You ready?” When she nodded, he began reading aloud. Smiling even wider when she nestled herself under his vibranium arm, her head resting on his chest, right above his heart, her arms finding themselves around his waist. As they read on, the rain picked up again but they didn’t seem to notice. It felt like it was just the two of them in the whole world and of course Alpine. The further Bucky got into the book, the less he noticed around him, when he finally looked away from the page, he saw that she had fallen asleep again. Soft snores falling from her slightly parted lips, her arms hanging loosely around his waist, the neckline of her(his) shirt shifted to the right and there was nothing more perfect to him than this, than the love of his life fast asleep in his arms, dreaming of their future together. It didn’t take him long to follow after her, quickly finding himself in a peaceful slumber that he only seems to get with her in his arms.
GASP wait!! now that buck and the reader are living together, can we get a look at them having a cleaning day too? 🥹 buck waking up to OLDIES BLARING AND THE VACUUM CLEANER BLASTING DOWN THE DAMN HALLWAY AND READER BUSTS IN AND TELLS HIM TO START WIPING DOWN THE KITCHEN im ethnic so 🤷🏽♀️
cleaning your apartment with bucky
most days had a calm start now that bucky was living with you; he was either gently woken up by the sun or a soft shake of his shoulder
well, except for cleaning days
bucky wasn't scared of much, but on cleaning day? you made him nervous with your intensity sometimes
eyelids peeling wide open to the sound of upbeat oldies playing, the sheer volume shook the room as you walked in
"listen, doll, i don't know who lauryn hill is, but can she wait until 10 a.m. maybe :)" / "no"/ ":( " / "now grab a rag, that counter won't clean itself :)"
there was truly never a dull moment with bucky, even when doing such menial tasks as cleaning
he's always ready to help which is great but fuck is he dense sometimes
"five bucks and i'll drink that right now" / "are you talking about the floor cleaner, bucky?" / "yeah" / "no" / "you're telling me you don't want to know what that tastes like?" / "N O" / "huh, and you say i'm the old man here"
surprisingly, bucky had a knack for cleaning, some would even say a passion for it
"you've been shining the fridge for 15 minutes, i think you're good, barnes" / "doll, i come from a time where everything had lead in it, nothing is ever really 'good'" / "do you just spend all day worrying about how much lead there is in everything? do you not get tired?" / "oh, no, it's exhausting and i'm always stressed"
like he took it really seriously
"now that we're done, wanna have some fun ;)" / "like sex?" / "yes, bucky, i'm talking about sex" / "but i just washed the sheets" / ". . ." / "we can try it standing" / "omg"
you couldn't really complain, though, he was great help and he made moving furniture a lot easier
like that one time you lost the remote control
"have you seen the control, bucky?" / "no, but i can help look" / ". . ." / ":)" / "are you. . . are you lifting the couch up right now" / "yes" / "with me still on it" / "yes, doll" / "i'm both impressed and aroused, well done" / "does that mean we can try that standing idea now?" / "bucky!"
the best part was when you'd take all the warm blankets out the dryer and fall asleep, cocooned together in a pile of warmth <3
hey hey! can u do some fluffy bucky about having to share a hotel room w u and there’s only one bed!!!! and he’s trying to be respectful n stuff but man does he have the fattest crush on u! thank u <333

completed requests!
“Stick to the plan, Y/N.” Steve’s voice came through over the intercom. She rolled her eyes at his warning. He always seemed to be extra cautious with her, making her feel like an unimportant member of the team, and this mission was no different.
“I got this,” she said, completely ignoring his request and charging headfirst at the enemy. Her brash decision resulted in her receiving a heavy beat down, ending up with a split lip and fractured ribs.
Needless to say, Steve was pissed. He and Y/N developed a close friendship over the years, during his search for Bucky. She was oftentimes the one who would stay up all night with him, looking for any trace of Bucky’s existence online. She’d become one of the closest people in his life, which is exactly why he was upset with her, endangering her own life.
After the mission, he confronted her at the base camp.
“You could’ve gotten killed!”
“But I didn’t,” she snapped back. “And the mission was a success anyways, so I don’t get why you’re so mad right now.”
Steve closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose, sighing.
“It’s reckless behavior like this that’s eventually going to get you killed, Y/N.”
Bucky walked into the room and immediately regretted his decision as soon as he laid his eyes on Y/N. He’d come to foster an animosity towards her, after seeing her close friendship with Steve. After Bucky joined the Avengers, he noticed how much time they spent together, and jealousy started to fester within him. Steve was the only person he felt comfortable being around in the tower and she constantly took him away from Bucky. Everyone else seemed to have an aversion to him, or so he assumed. He never gave anyone the chance to get to know him, locking himself up in his room most hours of the day. Bucky didn’t think anyone would want to get to know an ex-assassin, especially one that killed the Tony Stark’s parents. She was the one thing that kept Steve away from him and he despised it. So Bucky did what he did best and avoided any sort of interaction with her.
Steve looked at Bucky and suddenly, an idea popped in his head. He had noticed how closed-off Bucky had been since joining the Avengers and refused to let Y/N be alone, worried that she might make another brazen decision. He hatched a plan to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.
“Bucky,” Steve said, making his way over to him. “You and Y/N will be assigned to the same room tonight.”
Bucky choked on his own spit in response and Y/N began to protest.
“You’re not serious, right?” Steve turned to face her with a stern expression.
“You’re not giving me any reason to trust you to be alone.” She let out a defeated sigh and crossed her arms across her chest.
“Why me?” Bucky asked, trying to figure out how he ended up in this situation.
Steve placed a hand on Bucky’s shoulder and looked into his eyes. “Because I trust you, Buck. I need you to do this for me.”
Bucky could see the desperation in Steve’s eyes and reluctantly nodded.
Steve was able to obtain another key card to the hotel room that Y/N was assigned to for the mission. He forgot to take into account the logistics of the sleeping arrangements, leaving Bucky to find a single bed as he entered Y/N’s room.
Bucky froze, his right hand on the door handle, keeping it open, his left hand by his side, holding his duffel bag. He racked his brain, trying to figure out what to do, when Y/N’s voice pulled him from his thoughts.
“Relax,” she started, motioning for him to come inside. “I’ll sleep on the floor, alright?”
Y/N knew that Bucky didn’t like her, despite Steve trying to convince her otherwise. It hurt her feelings a bit, especially after she’d learned so much about him through both Steve’s stories and the time she spent tracking him down. He was such an important person to Steve, her close friend, and Bucky hated her. At first, she figured he was shy and wasn’t ready to open up to anyone else, especially after all the trauma he endured. But she realized he actively disliked her over time, with Bucky always leaving the room when she entered or ignoring her offers to hang out with her and Steve. Eventually, she gave up on reaching out to Bucky, as she only seemed to upset him further, no matter what she did. She figured it was for the best.
Bucky stepped into the room and shook his head.
“Bed’s too soft for me anyways, I’ll take the floor,” he grumbled.
Y/N shrugged in response, knowing that Bucky would be too stubborn to try and argue against. She turned around and picked up the phone, calling the front desk to ask for extra blankets and pillows. When she hung up the phone, she turned back to Bucky to see him nod in thanks.
The rest of the night was silent, as they both prepared for bed, taking turns going into the bathroom to wash up and change. While Y/N was in the bathroom, Bucky arranged the extra blankets and pillows into a makeshift bed on the ground, something that he’d done countless times before. Y/N exited the bathroom in an oversized t-shirt that covered her shorts, and placed her toiletries bag in one of the hotel dresser drawers.
“Bathroom’s all yours.” Bucky grunted in response, grabbing some clothes and a bag headed for the bathroom.
“Don’t do anything stupid,” he stated, just before shutting the door behind him. Y/N scoffed at his comment, gently climbing into bed, in an attempt to not further injure her ribs. She winced as she tried to get into a comfortable position before settling to sleep on the side of her unaffected ribs.
Bucky emerged from the bathroom to see Y/N lying on her left side, her back towards him. He assumed that she had already fallen asleep and quietly crawled into his makeshift bed.
Approximately 10 minutes had passed, when he heard her sniffling. At first, he thought the noise was coming from outside the window, but he traced it back to her. He remained lying on his back for a moment, deciding whether or not to say something. Bucky sighed before speaking.
“You okay?” Y/N immediately stiffened upon hearing Bucky’s voice. She was hoping that he wouldn’t hear her crying, despite his super soldier hearing abilities.
“Yeah, ‘m fine,” she replied back, her voice wavering as she spoke. Y/N hated how weak and pathetic she sounded in that moment. Her fractured ribs made it hard for her to breathe and the adrenaline, that was previously shielding her from the pain, had faded, leaving her to lie there in agony. On top of that, she also felt that this mission solidified her belief that Steve had little faith in her ability to be an Avenger. The last thing she wanted to do right now, was to confess her insecurities to Bucky.
Bucky’s attitude softened, hearing Y/N’s voice crack when she spoke. He knew she’d gotten hurt due to her own, dumb, decision during the mission. Bucky quietly pulled his blankets off and stood up, leaving the room without saying another word. As soon as the door shut, Y/N burst into tears. Bucky did exactly as he’d done in the past many times before, leave. She wasn’t sure why this time upset her more than the rest. Probably because she knew that he was aware of her crying and he’d still chosen to abandon her completely.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the door opening, causing her to stop crying. Y/N listened to Bucky’s footsteps growing closer, and felt the bed dip under his weight as he sat on the edge she was facing towards. She peered over the blanket she was covering her face with, to see Bucky facing her, holding a bag of ice, wrapped in a towel. Bucky’s heart sank at the sight of her glossy eyes and tear stained cheeks in the moonlight.
“For your ribs,” he spoke softly, gesturing to the ice bag in his hands.
“Oh. Thank you.”
Y/N took the bag from him, attempting to slowly sit up. She closed her eyes as she grimaced, and suddenly felt a hand on her back, helping her up. Her eyes opened to reveal Bucky, with a soft smile on his lips. She silently thanked him again, placing the ice bag on the right side of her ribcage.
“Thought you hated me,” she mumbled, keeping her gaze down on her lap. He furrowed his brows, keeping his eyes on her.
“I don’t hate you.”
“Well, you definitely don’t like me.”
Bucky paused at her comment, thinking about his next words, before responding.
“I don’t like that you take up all of Steve’s free time,” he grumbled, causing Y/N to quickly look up at Bucky, his eyes averting her gaze. Her face fell, immediately realizing why Bucky had treated her so coldly all this time. He just missed his friend.
“I’m so sorry, Bucky.” She placed a hand on his shoulder and he looked up at her in response. “I didn’t realize, I’m sorry.”
Bucky didn’t know what to say. He wasn’t expecting her to be so kind and understanding, even coming up with multiple points to argue back at her. He realized then that he didn’t know her at all, but that he wanted to now. In an instant, she became an entirely different person. He studied her eyes and wondered if they had always sparkled like that, if her cheeks were naturally rosy, or if her lips had always been so pink and plump.
His expression softened and he cleared his throat. “It’s fine,” he muttered, tearing himself away from her gaze to look down at his lap. After a moment of silence, Bucky stood up to return back to the floor.
“Stay.” The words left Y/N’s mouth before she had time to process them. Bucky froze and turned to face her. “I mean, if you want to, of course. Just figured the floor must be super uncomfortable for you.” Y/N felt a blush creep up onto her cheeks and kicked herself mentally. She looked down at her hands, regretting the words she spoke, before feeling the bed dip again. She looked up to see Bucky. He smiled and she almost melted at the sight.
She shifted over, putting the ice bag on the nightstand, as Bucky crawled into bed next to her. The two rested on their backs, both staring at the ceiling in silence. Bucky remained at a respectful distance away, not wanting to overstep any boundaries. Y/N turned on her left side, her good side, to face him.
“I’m glad you don’t hate me.”
Bucky turned on his side to face her before responding.
“I don’t think I could ever hate you.”
A strand of her hair had fallen in front of her face and Bucky, instinctively, reached out a hand to tuck it behind her ear. Immediately, he regretted it, about to pull his hand back when Y/N took her hand and placed it on top of his, guiding it to rest on her cheek. He cupped her face in his hand and she leaned into his embrace. Bucky felt his heart rate increase as she moved her body closer to his, wrapping the arm she used to hold his hand on her face, across his side. He shifted towards her as well, wrapping his arm around her body, bringing her closer to him.
“Is this okay?” He whispered, nervous that he might have somehow misinterpreted the situation. He hadn’t been with a woman in such an intimate way in years and had no idea what he was doing. Y/N looked up at him and nodded, before snuggling her face into his chest and Bucky felt a wave of calm wash over him.
“Can you stay here tonight?” Y/N mumbled, her face pressed into his chest. He chuckled at the vibrations from her voice and kissed her temple, smoothing her hair back.
Summary: Bucky takes time to realize why he seems to dislike the mornings.

~*~
Bucky Barnes isn’t a morning person.
Not by a long shot.
Especially not when compared to Steve Rogers.
James Barnes’ appreciation for mornings is in a tender little space between Sam’s hatred and Steve’s weird love.
It’s not the waking up process that he's not a fan of, Lord knows he’s awake at the asscrack of dawn every day anyway. It’s the leaving the bed part that he absolutely detests.
He never used to hate leaving the bed. Hell, for over seventy years he never had a bed to leave anyway.
But now he’s got a nice big king-sized bed with soft sheets and warm blankets.
Better than the sheets and the blankets, though, is the woman he spends his nights with. The one he gets to wake up beside every morning, his own little koala of love, cuddling against him like her life depends on it.
The worst part of waking up in the morning is leaving the bed. More specifically, leaving you alone in it.
Now, he hates it for a number of reasons. The first being, he loves to be there when you wake up.
The mornings when he’s still in bed with you when you wake up are few and far between. Always called away by missions, therapy, or Steve being an early bird; you rarely get to wake up slowly with him beside you.
He loves to watch you wake up. He watches the way your nose scrunches and your eyebrows draw together, hears your soft little yawn and the tiny little squeak you give when you stretch, and feels you cuddle right back up against him.
You always, like clockwork, press the ever cold tip of your nose against his chest and take a deep breath like you’re breathing him in, like you can’t get enough of him.
You make him feel important.
And then you’ll pull away the tiniest bit to smile up at him and whisper a soft ‘good morning’ in that sexy morning voice of yours.
Sometimes he can’t keep it in his pants in the mornings. He needs to feel you, feel every inch of you, and you let him.
By God, do you let him.
Those mornings, he lives for.
He loves hearing your soft whimpers and whines as he brings you over the edge time after time. Your nails rake down his back leaving marks that Sam will always comment on, but he doesn’t care.
Because those marks are a reminder that he got to spend a morning with you.
He silences his alarm ten minutes before it goes off.
Steve can go bug Sam today.
His big arms wind around your frame, tugging you closer to his body, and he buries his nose in your hair.
A soft, squeaky little whine falls from your lips and you burrow into him, nudging that cold nose of yours against his chest.
Your leg hitches around his waist, locking your body around his as you shift impossibly nearer.
“Good morning,” he whispers, voice gravelly and husky and so damn perfect. A shiver travels down your spine and you hug yourself closer to him.
“Morning.”
His metal arm rests beneath the pillow you’re resting your head on, and his flesh arm is wrapped around you like a vice, rough fingers dragging gently up and down. your back beneath the shirt of his that you wear.
“I thought you were going for a run with Steve today,” you murmur, lips pressing to his hot skin.
He hums, the sound vibrating through your head when he presses a kiss to your hair.
“Nah. Wanna stay here with you.”
You grin, peeling your head away from his chest to squint up at him in the dim morning light.
The sun is just peeking up over the horizon, gentle rays filling your apartment with warmth.
“Mhm... what’s Steve gonna say?”
He heaves out a sigh and props himself up on his metal arm, rolling the tiniest bit so you’re half-blanketed with his huge warm body.
“Who cares? It’s daylight savings.”
A giggle falls from your pretty kissable lips and he grins, loving that he made his girl laugh.
“That’s hardly a good excuse, Barnes.”
He raises his eyebrows and rolls onto you completely, left hand moving to bring your other leg up around his waist.
He supports his weight with his arms and you wind your own around his neck, a smile gracing your features.
“Do I really need an excuse to spend a morning in bed with my girl?”
You purse your lips as if you’re really thinking hard about the question, and he rolls his eyes.
“I’ll tickle you, Angel, you know I will.”
One of his hands drops to your waist to make his threat all the more real, and you jolt, dropping your own hand to rest on his.
“No!”
He chuckles, nose bumping against yours for a moment before he drops his head to the crook of your neck.
“I love waking up with you, James, you know that. The best part of my day.”
He pulls back a bit to look at you when you lift the hand on your waist up to your mouth.
You place kiss after delicate kiss to his metal hand, your eyes locked with his.
“When I wake up and you’re still here with me I know I’m going to have a good day. You’re my good luck charm, James.” He smiles down at you, the expression so tender and so full of love, real love, that you need to look away from him.
“Same goes for you, sweet girl. Wakin’ up next to you gives me hope. Reminds me that there’s still good in this world worth fightin’ for.”
His words melt you into a puddle of love and adoration on the bed, and tears of joy tingle behind your eyes.
“You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, pretty girl. The best damn thing. I used to think that findin’ Steve again was the best but no... finding you... that’s been my biggest blessing.” His head drops to your sternum, resting gently there.
“I’ve done bad things... you know that. I’ve hurt people... and for a long time, I thought that I just... I deserved everything bad that the world had to offer. And then fate o-or destiny or God, I don’t know which, drops you in front of me. The sweetest peach on the tree, prettiest flower in the whole garden. And you’re all mine.”
You cast your eyes to the side bashfully then shake your head at him.
“You deserve the word, James. I’m just sorry that I can’t give it to you.”
He lifts his head from your chest and gives you a gentle smile.
“You’re all the world I need, dove.”
You bump your hip up against his and he rolls onto his back, pulling you with him.
You lie against his torso peacefully, ear pressed to his chest to listen to the steady thumping of his heart while he traces along your back some more.
With you cradled against his chest, he realizes that maybe, he might not hate the mornings as much as he thought or as much as everyone else thinks.
He loves the mornings.
James Buchanan Barnes is a morning person, only when those mornings are spent with you.

You poke your head around the wall and check the kitchen. Thankfully, no one is there so you tip toe to the fridge and pull it open, searching the contents but sighing when nothing looks good. You’re hungry but you don’t know what you want to eat, you’re tired but you can’t sleep and at this point you’ve read the same paragraph 5 times in your book.
Slamming the fridge door shut you open the cabinet and pull out a bag of chips, cringing when it slips from your hands and crinkles loudly. You stand still hoping you didn’t wake anyone and wait. There is no sound other than your rapid breathing so you let your shoulders relax and think about a drink.
Once your tea is made and you have a large bowl of chips you head to the couch and grab the TV remote. You turn it on and surf Netflix, finding nothing worth watching before switching to Amazon prime.
With a defeated huff you try Disney Plus as a last resort and settle on Wall-e. You’re picking at the chips, mindlessly crushing them into smaller pieces between your fingers when you feel a pair of eyes on you. You look toward the kitchen and see Bucky leaning over the counter, his eyes soft as he gives you a little wave.
“I hope I’m not disturbing you doll,” he says quietly.
You shake your head no and burrow deeper into the couch. Bucky walks over and looks at your empty teacup.
“Would you like more tea?” he asks. “I’m going to make some for myself.”
“Thank you, that would be nice,” you reply, reaching over to grab the cup.
You lift it and do your best to stop the tremble in your hands but Bucky notices, wrapping his fingers around yours and giving you a squeeze.
“I got it doll,” he says, so softly you almost don’t hear him. “I’ll be right back ok?”
You nod and stick your hands under the blanket, wringing them together nervously. Bucky returns a few minutes later with two steaming cups of tea and a reassuring smile.
“Mind if I sit?” he asks, before placing the cups down.
“Not at all,” you tell him, shifting over to make room.
He takes a seat and fixes the blanket over your lap, gently rubbing your arm.
“I like this movie,” he starts. “I think Wall-e and Eve are really cute. And that little cockroach makes me laugh.”
“Me too, he’s so cute for a cockroach!”
“What’s your favorite thing Wall-e collects?” he asks you, bumping his shoulder into yours.
You scrunch your face up in thought, humming until you belt out, “the video tape of the couple dancing! It’s so romantic.”
“Yea I like that too but I love when he finds the spork and he doesn’t know where to put it!” he laughs.
You laugh with him, feeling some of the tension seep out of you. You lean into Bucky’s warmth and he throws a comforting arm around your shoulders, pulling you closer. You watch the rest of the movie, commenting on the parts you love and getting emotional at the ending.
When the first tear rolls down your cheek Bucky immediately sits up and wipes it away with his thumb.
“Aw baby girl. It’s ok,” he says, rubbing your back.
Between the movie and his sweetness, you let down your wall and start to cry. Bucky doesn’t say a word and instead pulls you into his lap and wraps you in his arms. When your tears start to dry and your breathing becomes more even Bucy takes the sleeve of his Henley and gently wipes at your face and nose.
“I think I just got snot all over your shirt,” you sniffle.
He laughs and it makes you smile. “I don’t care at all doll face. I can wash it.”
You dip your head into the crook of his neck and play with the buttons at the top of his shirt.
“Thanks for sitting with me. I needed this,” you whisper.
He takes your hand and flattens it against his chest, covering it with his own.
“I know you did,” he answers softly. “I knew something wasn’t right a couple of days ago but I didn’t want to push. And I still don’t but if you need to talk or need me for anything, I’m here. Ok?”
“Will you come hold me until I fall asleep?” you ask him.
With a kiss to your forehead, he lifts you into his arms and starts walking to your room. He places you back on your feet and shuts the door. He gets into the bed and holds the covers up for you. You slide in and snuggle up against his chest, his arm curling around your middle.
“Thank you,” you mumble into his shirt, discreetly giving it a sniff.
“Did you just smell my shirt?” he asks with a laugh.
“Mayyyyybe…. but you smell nice if that makes it any better.”
He laughs again and drops his head to your neck, giving you a sniff. “So do you.”
You giggle and let yourself relax into him, quickly drifting off into a peaceful sleep. You wake up and feel the hard press of his chest to your back and the strength of his arm still wrapped around you, but you’re still groggy from sleep, thinking it must still be nighttime.
His hand slides down your arm and his fingers curl around yours, giving them a gentle squeeze.

Can I steal your fries?
You had found yourself in a small diner, after another terrible date, with a large portion of fries in front you. Perhaps alcohol would've been more helpful to forget the whole day, but sadly your work schedule didn't allow you to get drunk and risk a hangover.
As soon as you sat down, you deleted the dating app off your phone, earning an amused look from the stranger in the booth in front of you when you had muttered something along the lines of "Fuck this shit." and "Might as well start referring to myself as a trash can if trash is all I attract."
You could feel the warmth of a blush rising on your cheeks when you heard the stranger chuckle and you were sure that you looked exactly like the ketchup on your fries. Why did you have to blush so easily? Fuck.
Unfortunately he was quite handsome, which didn't help your ketchup-face problem at all. His hair was rather short, though it looked like he was growing it out, and he gave off cozy vibes with the navy blue hoodie he was wearing and the steaming cup of coffee in his hands. He was far more than quite handsome. It was then that you noticed that his eyes, unfairly blue like the sky on a perfect summer day, were focused on you.
He fully caught you staring at him. Damn it.
In order to hide your embarrassment, you quickly adverted your eyes to the plate in front of you. Suddenly the fries were very interesting.
The sound of footsteps appeared and just when you had thought that you creepingly staring made the stranger leave, a muscular body came in sight and you were starting to feel anxious.
Thinking that apologizing was the best way to get over with this as soon as possible, you tried to come up with an excuse "Look, I'm sorry for staring. I jus-" you started bubbling, but he quickly interrupted you.
"Wouldn't have caught you staring at me if I wasn't staring as well, would I?" he said, his voice surprisingly sweet and when you had gathered up enough courage to look up at him, you were welcomed with a breathtaking smile.
Without any hesitation, he sat down in front of you and the anxious feeling quickly washed away, being replaced with irritation instead. Sure, he didn't look bad, but he was a stranger after all.
You eyed him suspiciously and he did the same, obviously mocking you. "I don't want to sound rude but I believe your coffee wants your attention more than me" you said, actually not really bothering to sound polite.
"Does sound rude to me, doll."
He probably used the nickname a lot, however it didn't stop you from feeling flattered. Not wanting to acknowledge it, and turning red again, you decided to keep your mouth shut.
The silence was starting to feel uncomfortable and from the way his brows slightly furrowed with thought, you could tell that he didn't want the conversation to end so soon.
"You're not here for the first time and I actually wanted to talk to you for a while." he admitted, "Even tried to get your attention, but all you did was stare into your phone and yeah" a faint blush crept up on his cheeks.
It took you a solid minute to process his words. Yes, you were a frequent customer, most of the times visiting after another date went downhill and sometimes you would google dating advice and gag at all the bullshit everyone wrote. You didn't exactly hate being single, though having someone to come home to wasn't the worst thought you could think of. The more dates went wrong, the more you and your family, especially them, began to wonder what was wrong with you.
"Always love a stranger watching me" you joked and instantly grimace at how badly you had worded it. That's not what you meant.
His laughter filled your ears and it was full of warmth and so contagious, you had to laugh as well.
After the laughter had died down, he cleared his throat and extendended his right hand to you "I'm Bucky" he softly said and while shaking it, the contact sending slight shivers down your spine, you tell him your name.
"Now that we know each others names, can I steal some of your fries?" Bucky asked, not waiting for an answer as he reached for your plate.
"No" you chuckled out, playfully swatting his hand away, and he glared at you for a second before dramatically putting the hand on his chest, claiming that you've really hurt his feelings and it might take decades to mend the pain in his heart.
The conversation between the two of you flowed nicely. He told you about his visits to different countries and you would ask questions about how the people were and if the food tasted good, the latter truthfully answered with a "I usually went for cheeseburgers due to the lack of time."
You had told Bucky how much you despise going on dates now because your family would pressure you, saying that the problem has to be you since your ex shortly found a significant other after the break up.
Bucky's jaw tightened at that and he voiced out how fucking rude your family was, wondering if they don't have anything else to do than rubbing their noses in your love life. Seeing that he has was way more understanding than your own family, empathy had always been something all of them undoubtedly lacked off, made you even more fond of the handsome stranger and you felt comfortable sharing personal pieces of your life with him as hours passed by.
Midway through your story you paused to look at your plate, realizing that it was almost empty now and the only reason why he didn't stop your rambling was because it allowed him to eat your fries.
"Stop taking my fries." you muttered out, causing him to grin.
"What are you gonna do about it?" he questioned, voice heavenly charming as he suggestively wiggled his eyebrows at you.
Perhaps this was the most cliché thing to do, but the look he gave you when you threw a few fries at his face was something you wish you would've gotten a picture of. His eyes were still slightly widened in shock when he, not so attractively, shoved all of the fries in his mouth, making you laugh at his childish behavior.
"I got to eat the fries. Seems like I won, sweetheart." he proudly declared.
Banters and stories later, your eyes caught a glimpse of the clock on your phone and you frown when it reads two a.m
You jolted up from your seat, calling out an apology to the old waitress who seemed to be startled by the sudden change of energy. "I do enjoy talking to you, but my shift starts in six hours." you said, your voice laced with a hint of sadness.
Bucky stood up as well and reached for your phone that was still lying on the table. He handed it you, signaling for you to unlock it, and when he had access to it, he quickly typed in his number and pressed the saving button. A cheekish smile on his lips when he puts it in your grasp again and you can't help but beam at him, too.
He held his hands up in defense, "Figured you need my number after you have deleted all the datings apps."
You rolled your eyes in response and, who knows where the confidence boost came from, step closer to him. "Goodnight" you murmured, pressing a light kiss to his cheek and they instantly heat up, which made him look adorable. Maybe you had found someone who blushes just as easily as you.
Once you had entered the front door of your apartment, your phone gave off a noise, signaling that you had received a message. A quick glance at the screen told you that it was Bucky asking if you came home alright. He definitely is a gentleman. Just when you were about to answer him, another text popped up. You had to bite the inside of your cheek to stop you from grinning like a lovestruck teenager while reading it.
Bucky:
When will you take me out?
Sincerely, your trash

The beautiful sun was shining, illuminating soft glowing shadows around the compound. But judging by how your morning was currently going, it might as well have been a dark, cloudy stormy morning.
Your morning was fine up until you strolled into the kitchen, that’s when everything seemed to go wrong. You accidentally broke the coffee machine, your heavy hands pulled on one of the levers too hard which rendered the coffee machine useless. Tony has just walked in, his eyes looking up from the glass tablet in his hands.
“What did you do?!” He asks, his tone not his usual Tony tone. This tone was irritated and you knew what was coming.
“I’m sorry Tony… I’m so sorry… it was an accident and I accidentally broke the machine.”
“You broke my coffee machine?! Do you have any idea how much these cost? No. I don’t suppose you would! It’s you that never buys anything!”
“I can repay you or replace the machine, it's no–.”
“Don’t tell me it’s ‘no problem’ Y/N! Just- just get out of my sight!” With a quivering lip, you left the kitchen. Looking behind you to see Tony rubbing his temples and not paying attention to where you were going. You ended up walking into a table, tipping it slightly to knock the expensive vase over, the thin glass immediately shattering from the impact of the floor. Oh no. Your heart may have stopped when you heard Tony’s footsteps come up from behind you.
“Y/N! JUST WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?! WERE YOU BORN THIS GODDAMN CLUMSY OR ARE YOU JUST STUPID?!” Tony’s yelling caught the attention of agents and the team who were walking past in the hallway. With everyone’s eyes on you at the same time, it was hard not to shrink under their stares. Your best friend Bucky steps up beside you and wraps a protective arm around your shoulder and pulls you into his chest.
“Would you fucking relax? It was an accident.” He tells Tony, you bury your face further into his chest, wanting nothing more than to disappear from this very room. In the span of minutes, it felt like you were being scolded by a parent. A parent who wouldn’t listen to your explanation.
“An accident really? I can believe Y/N breaking my coffee machine is an accident, but for them to just casually walk into the fucking table that’s in front of their eyes to break my vase, very unlikely. Did I do something for you to break my stuff, huh?” Tony taunts, jabbing at your shoulder to which Bucky responds by pulling you away from Tony.
“Accidents happen Tony.” Steve intervenes, “like that time Clint punched you? An accident. But you didn’t scream at him.”
“Clint didn’t break my coffee machine or my vase.”
“Fuck you and your coffee machine and vase. How much did the coffee machine cost?” Bucky growls, his heartbeat lulling you into a sense of security.
“$2000.” Tony replies with an exaggerated eye roll.
Bucky wheezes and mutters something along the lines of ‘2 grand for a fucking coffee machine?’ “Here,” Bucky starts, pulling his wallet from his back pocket and counting the notes before throwing the wad of cash towards Tony. “Take the 2 grand and shove it up your ass. Come on doll, let’s get out of here.” Bucky says softly, pulling you with him.
You’re not sure when the tears started to fall, but they wouldn’t stop by the time Bucky walked you back towards your room. He made sure the door was shut before pulling you in for a tight hug, letting you cry and breakdown into his chest and not caring if you soaked his shirt. Making sure you were alright was his number one priority.
You stand there, it could have been minutes, or it could have been hours. His hands are rubbing your back, breathing in his scent makes you feel more calmer. You pull back, looking up at him through wet eyes and a snotty nose. Bucky chuckles before disappearing into your en-suite to grab some tissue, you reach your hand out to take it, but you’re surprised when he takes care of everything for you.
“Are you okay?” He asks, hooking his fingers under your chin and smiling down at you.
“I’m a disappointment to him, he’s going to kick me off the team and I-.”
“He wouldn’t dare, doll. Besides, he can’t kick you off for breaking a coffee machine and a vase. Want to know a secret?” One side of his lips tugs up into a side grin. You nod your head with a small smile, “the coffee sucked anyway. Nobody in the compound liked it so the joke’s on him.” You laugh a little and shake your head. “Trust me doll, he’s not going to do anything. He has two super soldiers to fight first.” He winks, reaching for your hand and kissing the back of it. The feel of his lips against your skin felt like fireworks. It felt majestic and beautiful.
“Thank you Bucky. I owe you for the machine.” You sigh rubbing your feverish head from all the crying.
“No you don’t. I won’t accept your money. If you want to thank me, agree to watch a movie with me.” You pretend to think it over, there was just something satisfying watching him stand there nervously.
“Okay, you’ve got yourself a deal Mr. Barnes.”
“Come on doll.” Bucky says, walking over to your bed and pulling the duvet back, “change into something comfortable and I’ll be right back.” He leaves your room and let’s you change, you close the curtains and turn on your mood lights wrapped around your metal framed headboard and slide under the duvet, wiggling your toes against the clean cotton.
Bucky returns with snacks, he’s also changed into a pair of loose boxers and a white shirt. He throws the snacks in the middle of the bed before joining you and sighing, propping the pillows up against the headboard. He pats his chest and you grin, quickly scooting closer to him to lay your head on him. Bucky reaches for the bag of Cheetos while you choose a movie on Netflix.
You were both supposed to have meetings to attend to today, but since your well-being was his priority, he talked to Steve and promised to fill you in on the details later.
Right now it was just you and him. That’s all Bucky really cared about.
