hiiiii guys I’m backkkkk I honestly didn’t have any ideas for Malec headcanons for awhile but I’ve got one today:
As everyone knows Alec tolerates Clary and Simon (and we know he secretly loves them) but they can be annoying and so whenever alec starts to glare or snap if Magnus is there he’ll say “Alexander, be nice.” Or “Darling don’t make that face you’re too pretty for that.” And Alec will immediately try and hide the smile that Magnus’ presence alone gives him, but now that he’s talking well Alec can’t resist grinning like a love sick puppy. And then Clary or Simon will smile or tease and Alec will go to say something else but then Magnus will slide his hand down Alec’s arm, lacing their fingers together and leaning close to his ear hushing him.
And then I think it goes without saying Alec forgets what his last name is at that point, so clary and Simon walk away free a lot if Magnus is in the room :)
Okay okay okay, I just imagined Alec going on many trips because ~Mr. Inquisitor~ and thinking of presents to buy for his husband cause he loves him so much?? And just being all sweet and cheesy about it but at the same time acting like it's no big deal. And readers could get to know what he chose and why he chose it (it reminds him of Magnus's eyes, it's this makeup he mentioned last week, this ring would look amazing next to the silver one) 💜💜
OH GOD ALL OF THE SMALL PRESENTS FOR MAGNUS ONCE ALEC STARTS REALIZING HOW MUCH MAGNUS LIKES THEM AND NEVER GETS THEM.
~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~
It starts small, at first, because Alec isn’t sure what Magnus will like, and what he won’t. The Omamori was obviously a successful, but after that, he does wonder exactly what else he can give Magnus.
The next gift he gets Magnus is something he sees on the way home from the Institute. He knew that Magnus was having a longer day with clients, so he was likely going to still be working by the time he got back to the loft. Walking past another store, he stopped and looked back at the open door. The flowers in the window caught his eyes and he tilted his head, walking into the shop a moment later.
Alec swallowed as he was immediately overwhelmed by scents of different flowers, but he couldn’t look away from the flowers he’d seen in the window. He frowned and studied them. There was only one of them per pot, which wasn’t like any of the others.
“Can I help you?”
Alec startled, his eyes widening as he turned back to the young lady standing behind him. He pointed to the vibrant flower, and cleared his throat. “What, what kind of flower is this?”
“Oh! It’s a species of Indonesian Orchids, we got several new versions in, and they’re a bit temperamental, but with some effort they can flourish here.”
Alec reached out and touched one of the pots, unable to keep from smiling. “These are Indonesian?”
“Yes?” she said, tilting her head. “Would you like one of them?”
“I want two,” Alec said, his face growing determined. “And any caretaking guides you have, I have no problem putting in the effort to take care of them.”
She smiled faintly and nodded. “Yes, of course. Why don’t you pick out the two you want and bring them to the counter?”
The first was easy. It was gold, and it reminded him of Magnus’ eyes. Alec cradled the pot carefully close to him and looked among the others, eventually picking a white one with a spat of bright color across it. It made him smile. He brought them up to the counter and smiled at the girl.
“Here you go,” she said, getting him rung up. “Is this for the significant other?”
Alec nodded, looking at the flowers again, as she wrapped them carefully to protect them from the chill of the New York air. “Yeah, my, my boyfriend is from Indonesia. I think this’ll...this’ll remind him of good memories of home.”
“That’s so romantic!” She gushed, finishing the transaction. “I hope that he loves them!”
Alec swallowed and took both of the orchids, heading towards the loft again.
By the time Magnus portalled back into the loft, Alec had the book open and was flipping through it as he tried to figure out where to put them where they would get enough light without being cold, because they were very susceptible to temperature changes and he was frowning at them as he read frantically.
“Now listen,” he ordered quietly, adding a bit of water to both pots. “I’m supposed to talk to you because it’s good for you, but you’re a gift and I want to keep you alive as long as possible, so take it easy on me, okay?”
“Take it easy on you,” Magnus called, a laugh in his voice. “Alexander who are you talking to?”
Alec swallowed and spun around, hiding the book behind him. “You’re home early!”
Magnus raised his eyebrows and stepped closer. “Actually, I’m home right when I said I’d be. Did you lose track of time?”
Alec looked over at the clock and his eyes widened. “Shit. Apparently. I meant to have dinner waiting for you.”
“What had you so distracted?” Magnus asked, stopping in front of Alec, tilting his head up to kiss him hello.
Alec swallowed hard and looked behind him and then back to Magnus. He took a deep breath, praying it wasn’t a bad idea, and stepped away from the two orchids he’d put on the table not far from the windows. “I, uh, picked these up, for you, on the way home.”
Magnus’ eyes widened.
“I know they’re not the usual, you know, dozen roses, but I really liked that these need to be taken care of, that they require effort and they’re-”
“They’re from home,” Magnus breathed, stepping closer, reaching out to stroke a finger gently over the petals of one of the orchids. “We had these near my home.” He blinked hard and forced another deep breath. “My, my mother used to braid them into her hair.”
Alec bit down on his lip hard enough to taste blood and reached out to touch Magnus’ shoulder. “It’s...I didn’t want to bring up any bad memories, but they reminded me of you,” he pointed to the gold one. “Especially that one, and I well. I wanted you to have a small piece of your home, here. If you wanted, I mean, hopefully it’s not a bad part, or anything and-”
“Alexander,” Magnus interrupted, spinning to look at him, his eyes golden and happy. “Now would be a good time to kiss me.”
Alec sagged in relief and smiled, leaning into a kiss as they both sighed together.
~!~
After that, Alec made it a point to pick up small things, especially as saw them. A small, amber gemstone that was smooth to the touch that reminded him of Magnus’ eyes sat on his bureau next to his makeup kits.
A desk organizer for his office - that thankfully Magnus had taken one look at, burst out laughing, doubled the size of, and proceeded to properly sort the mess on his desk.
More flowers, after they both discover they have a knack for it, filling the table, and then a whole corner of the room, slowly make their way into the loft.
The first piece of clothing Alec ever buys for Magnus is a belt. He’s noticed that Magnus has worn the same belt for more than two weeks and when he shyly comes home with the black leather, shot through with silver threads Magnus makes sure his shadowhunter knows JUST how much he likes it.
After that, it’s a makeup kit Magnus mentioned wanting, then a few nail polish colors he sees (or the name strikes him as funny - he bought Magnus 6 of the “Warlock” shade of dark purple, and is stupidly pleased when Magnus wears it for a week straight) that he thinks Magnus will enjoy.
It’s a small thing, but Alec makes sure to always keep his eyes out for small things that remind him of Magnus, because he already sees his boyfriend (and then, later, husband), everywhere, and this is just his way of proving it to Magnus again and again.
I can't believe I started a super soft Alec taking care of a tired Magnus and then forgot about it but I still have it in my draftsman so I will probably complete it by next week cause I am a pro at procrastination.
Magnus uses a lot of nicknames for other people, but 'angel' is especially reserved only for Alec. And one day, Alec surprises Magnus with a special nickname, reserved only for him as well.
Alec and Magnus were enjoying a peaceful evening in, both curled up on the couch next to each other, watching TV. Alec had his arm wrapped around Magnus’ shoulders, while the other was resting his body against his, a little smile on Alec’s face as he looked down and saw Magnus’ eyes locked on the TV screen and he happily sighed when Magnus placed his head on top of his shoulder, his heart warming up. He felt happy that he was the one offering Magnus comfort, the warlock grinning when he felt Alec’s eyes on him and he looked up, Alec looking away when he saw that Magnus caught him staring at him.
“I don’t mind you staring,” said Magnus playfully and Alec smiled sheepishly, pressing his lips against Magnus’ head and the older one felt a smile tugging at his lips as well and he sighed happily. “I mean, I know I’m quite easy on the eyes and a lot to look at,” added Magnus later and Alec rolled his eyes. Being humble wasn’t Magnus’ virtue. Well, at least not when it came to his looks. Then again, Alec didn’t mind it. Magnus looked amazing and it was nothing wrong that he knew it and was proud of it.
“You’re much more pleasant to look at than whatever is going on there on TV,” blurted Alec out and felt his cheeks redden, but did nothing to look away and he gained a little amused chuckle from his boyfriend. Alec then ran one of his fingers through Magnus’ hair and earned a little hum of approval as his long fingers continued to slowly massage against the warlock’s scalp and Magnus slowly closed his eyes, Alec’s fingers distracting him from watching the TV and Alec smiled happily when he saw that he had Magnus’ full attention.
“Hmm,” hummed Magnus and yawned, feeling his muscles completely relax when Alec’s fingers slowly moved down to his neck and he slowly straightened himself up, throwing his head back at Alec gently tugged onto his hair, messing up his perfect hairdo, but he didn’t mind it one bit. Magnus, who was now fully sitting up, knew of a perfect position to place himself in and Alec chuckled when Magnus laid down, placing his head on top of his lap and the Shadowhunter buried his fingers back into Magnus’ hair, slowly playing and tugging onto his locks, Magnus smiling as he was looking back up at his boyfriend. “This feels amazing, Alexander,” whispered Magnus and Alec beamed down at him.
“Yeah?” whispered Alec and leaned down to kiss Magnus, the warlock leaning up and he smiled when their lips met up in a gentle kiss, laying back down and he bit into his lower lip, nuzzling into Alec’s thigh and he almost purred when he felt Alec’s hand back on top of his head. Alec had to smile, Magnus was just like a cat at the moment and he had to force himself not to smile too widely.
“You make a wonderful pillow, angel,” said Magnus and Alec felt his cheeks heating up at the nickname, Magnus noticing that and he chuckled. Magnus was a man that he loved giving other people pet names, but ‘angel’ was especially reserved for Alec. “What are you thinking, darling?” asked Magnus after a few moments of silence and Alec shrugged.
“Nothing,” said Alec, who was now thinking about how special he felt when Magnus used those nicknames for him and he then remembered that he had no special names to call Magnus by. He bit into his lower lip as he thought about it for a few moments, his fingers still playing with Magnus’ hair, who was now just staring back up at him, curiosity shining in his eyes.
“Nothing?” asked Magnus and grinned, licking his lower lip and then slowly reached back with his hand and wrapped his fingers around Alec’s wrist and slowly took his hand from his head, placing Alec’s hand over his heart, before he brought Alec’s hand up to his lips and kissed the back of his palm, linking their fingers together and Alec felt his breath hitching when Magnus dropped his glamour, those gold eyes, filled with purely love, were looking up at him and Alec couldn’t breathe for a moment.
“By the Angel, you’re beautiful, love,” blurted out Alec, not really paying attention to what he was saying. Magnus, on the other hand, was very well aware of what Alec said and his eyes widened just a little bit when Alec added ‘love’ to the end of his sentence and he felt his heart skipping a beat. Alec wasn’t a man of words, actions usually spoke louder than his words, so him calling him by that special name made the warlock’s heart warm up and he smiled widely, Alec frowning. “What?” asked Alec, confused.
“What did you just call me?” asked Magnus in amusement and chuckled when it seemed that Alec realised it only then, faint red blush tinting his cheeks and he then looked down and shrugged. What, Magnus had many special names for him, so why couldn’t he have only one special reserved only for him?
“I, um, called you, love?” asked Alec slowly and Magnus hummed in delight, nodding. “Did you not like it?”
“Oh, quite on the contrary, my darling,” said Magnus and slowly reached up with his hand, his fingers gently touching Alec’s cheek, the younger one nuzzling into the touch and he then puckered his lips when Magnus’ fingers gently grazed his lips, kissing the fingers and Magnus slowly placed his hand down. “I quite liked it. I was just surprised, that’s all,” he added quickly and Alec gave him a lopsided smile, shy, but determined.
“O-oh, good,” stammered Alec and smiled when Magnus hand found its way back to his face and he leaned down so that Magnus could hug the back of his neck and pull him down for a kiss, Alec smiling into the sweet kiss and bit his lower lip when Magnus kissed the tip of his nose. “It’s a special name, only reserved for you,” commented Alec and Magnus nodded, heart making a little jump.
“I know,” whispered Magnus and smiled when Alec gently hugged his face with his palm, thumb gently caressing his cheek and the warlock let out a happy sigh. Magnus didn’t feel as loved and special as he did at that moment for a long time. He loved the feeling and decided to cherish that little moment more than anything. “And just so you know, the nickname angel is only reserved for you,” commented Magnus, Alec nodding and he felt his body warm up.
“It makes me feel special,” whispered Alec and Magnus laughed softly.
“Of course, that’s what pet names are supposed to be for,” said Magnus. Though, he never thought in million years that he and Alec would go to such a point that Alec would be comfortable enough to use pet names on him. That just showed how much Alec progressed and felt a lot more comfortable in his skin, Alec owning a lot of credit to Magnus, who was the one who showed him that it was okay to be himself.
“I love you, Magnus,” suddenly said Alec, feeling the urge to say those three words. The moment for it was perfect and Magnus let out a deep breath.
“And I love you too, angel,” said Magnus and grinned as Alec leaned down for another kiss.
