2: Has writing a fic ever changed your opinion of a character?

I'd say... sort of? Generally I think I go in with an idea of who I'm writing about, but the character surprises me and adds depth to themselves in the process. Not counting OCs, though, I can think of two significant shifts that have happened because of/during a fic I wrote.

The way I wrote Cole in Made in Glory laid the groundwork for the religious subtext that has come to be foundational to how I see him building his own legend and interacting with those around him (and I tried very hard to steer away from what he was doing, but he would not let me). It didn't change my opinion of him as much as it changed how I think of his tactics, but it was a big turning point in how I think of and write him.

The second example, and maybe the one more in line with the spirit of the question, is writing Rose in A Princess Who Would Hold Me. Admittedly the first time I wrote that fic I think I did a bad job with her, but that was the fic that really got me thinking about her position relative to Cinders and just what she is doing by pursuing a relationship with her. It took some time and a rewrite to completely let that understanding come to fruition, but having to sit in Rose's head as she tried to justify dating her prisoner definitely changed how I think about her.
