Course Description:
BAL808 is an introduction and continuation of studies in fighting styles, weapons use and maintenance, and battle strategy. Using the combined work of classes and training, BAL808 aims at making the students able both to fight effectively, and to reason in the heat of battle.
Course Goals and Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will have the following:
Effective use of weapons, and weapons maintenance
Mastering of weapon of choice
An ability to defend themselves from monsters, or other assailants
Gained ability toward battle strategy
BAL808 does not use letter grades for scoring in class, and instead, uses two grading options: Alive or Dead. Students with a score of 70% and above is consider "alive." These students are considered to have acceptable enough scores to have the abilities to successful survive on the battlefield. Any student below that score is considered dead because their efforts and success in the class determine a strong likelihood of death in battle.
Course Requirements:
A) Weekly Video Diary: Every week, students will tape a video diary. Video cameras will be given out to students, and a weekly assignment of which they tape their video on. Some weeks it will merely be a question they need to answer in their own words. Some weeks it will be of them training in front of the camera. The video diary is a way for the professor not only to get to know the student better, but be able to meet with them one on one to discuss technique changes, and address concerns.
B) Monthly Assessment: Once a month, students will given an exam on what they have learned that month and previous months combined. Depending on information given within the month, students will either take a short answer paper exam or an exam that will occur in the training arena.
C) Pop Quizzes: To ensure that students keep up will their studies, the professor will assign random pop quizzes that could either be paper exams or of physical means. These are quick and short, but require the student's effort in learning to knowledge to be able to succeed.
D) Extra Credit: Extra credit will be given to those students that go above and beyond and schedule extra training lessons outside of class with the professor. Each thirty minute meeting will give one grade point to the student with up to a maximum of ten points allowed; however, students may meet with the professor as much as needed.
Course Procedures:
A) Attendance: Attendance is mandatory with little to no excuses accepted. Every absence will strictly be punished with various means of attack.
B) Cheating: Cheating is banned, and strict and fierce punishment will be laid upon on cheaters. Cheaters never prosper, and with the class formulated so that students may strive in battle, cheaters will not be allowed.
C) Injuries: As this is a battle class, injuries will occur, and may be numerous. All injuries are to be brought to the teacher whom carries nectar at all times to heal those in needs. If any classmates seem to be hit with a life-threatening injury, please inform the professor.
D) Death: While this is a fighting course, no one is allow to deal out a fatal hit. This course is not about being a skilled killer, but being skilled in fighting so that you do not get killed.
