please no more azune and einfasens please...... a. none of them would even think of getting involved with a commoner let alone marry one in this climate. b. i do not think azune would ever be comfortable around them under any circumstances (guy on the verge of an anxiety attack every time he's on a room alone with them)
I love when we're bullying our dm 1. with rules. 2. with friendship. me (cleric) and our sorcerer both had disadvantage (i have a level of exhaustion and she had the frightened condition due to failed con saves) and we were talking about doing an arcana check for a magical ring we have during our short rest. and I was like well, since I see she's shaken up in here, my character will sit next to her in a half hug if she's allowing it (to give her the help action mechanically). and so we were both batting our eyes, like could she roll straight bc look how snuggly we are, it's helping !!! and it worked nbfeuflgfs
i have no idea what you're talking about and why it is obvious haha
send me a character and i’ll list: azune nayar (under the cut, bc surprise surprise it got long)
favorite thing about them: i'll preface this by saying that i personally find very compelling how luis builds and portrays his characters and allows them to be influenced by others in world and on the table (to the point of that influencing my dnd character's arc but we'll get to that in another post) his conflict is fascinating and i want to dissect every fucked up pattern of thinking he's adopted all these years from trauma. i could say a lot of things here. i do like that he Is emotional and expresses it even if its clear he was trouble regulating it. it could be easier to make a jaded numb character with that backstory than one with overflowing emotions. i absolutely love the approach with memory and how that intersects his backstory, the cultural passed down aspect of his sorcery and the divinity that's associated with paladins in a godless world. and a little thing i was thinking was a compelling choice, was how malleable azune still is. if you put in contrast how he talked about thjazi and the ritual during the schemers arc when bolaire was around, and murray and hal's opinion of thjazi's greatly wavered and the how he approached the ritual in convergence and the questions he had for thjazi when thaisha and thimble were around who still defended his memory. but that only happens with this inner circle, people he respects. with how closely he's interacted with einfasen you'd think he'd be easier to 'corrupt' as a character and none of that has bled through.
least favorite thing about them: girl quit your job, it's your 3rd mental breakdown in a week. all jokes aside, i do think continuing to be in the guard will continue to impact his sense of self negatively and i worry about that a lot. but i do not see him leaving that position in the next arc after his promotion. right now as is: 1. it allows him to influence house einfasen more. 2. it is interesting to see filoneus reaction to it(i still believe their trust comes from an accidental allusion to being affiliated with mayali) and opens a window there. the creed thought he would back them against the play. 3. it puts him in a position that he can sniff out possible magpie recruits in the guard or influence their dissatisfaction of the way the city is run. all to say this puts him in much more danger to blow his cover, and fall further down the pit of molding himself in the need of the cause instead of having the space to discover himself.
favorite line: one answer has to go to remember, specifically this past episode spoken in navika'an: inxolotle. it's such an accumulation of everything at his core of trying to keep alive and remember where he's from, of trying to keep alive the memory of every person that mattered to him that he awakes this ancient creature. i have a list is a funny addition. But i think the 'i will always be useful' describes so deep what his core issues stand. how he's killing bits of himself for the cause, how every relationship he's build is tinted by that transactional lens and thus that's where the distance comes from his side as well. it's his character thesis in and of itself for me. there are others that have been said about him but i'm focusing on lines said by him in character.
brOTP: murray, murray, have i said murray? incredibly fascinating dynamic. they came into this as each other's person and i'm very curious to see where their tension goes. especially murray's inherent distrusting nature with everything going on and azune tendency to hide the parts of himself he thinks as ugly from the people he respects and loves that are coming out now out of necessity. their potential divorce era will obliterate me.
vaelus and azune were also very interesting. their first interactions to be a mirroring of grief and being stuck in who you were when those people were alive because moving on from their memory would be sacrilegious? to See that in a stranger? incredible no notes. honorable mentions so this doesn't turn incredible long: more torn banner interactions, and hal and azune. he has no clue how to approach his dynamic with hal and wishes he did So bad.
OTP: again mag'nayar from the beginning could go other way for me. they have the most secret third relationship it's unreal. i don't think they're going that way right now but i'm going to be on the lookout fr. i am There to grasp whatever crumbs are coming our way. it's also no secret i also ship azulien. i think there is something very very interesting in how they've without much interaction have been narrative foils from the beginning. there's something juicy in how they've structured their lives around duty (to his house/to the cause) and how that affects them (maya's your live doesn't belong to you/ azune's i don't know who i am without you telling me who to me). they could make each other much worse or they could see those parts mirror in a long time and soften them possibly. that's not the right word but yee.
(and if azune is interested in a certain timmonish king who am i to say the opposite)
nOTP: any one that knew him as a kid is not for me, especially since that circle overlaps with being if not father figures, mentors of him. so thjazi, hal, torn banner i don't ship them.
random headcanon: mr. i have a list of everything & i eat a lot has the best recommendations when it comes to food in the city. he's tried every snack at every stall in the market throughout the years. he's out there inventing dol-makjar reviews for food establishments. (at least for the more comfort/street style of establishments) similarly his kitchen is the most well stocked place in his apartment, everything else is pretty standard and devoid of personal trinkets but there's always food in his pantry.
unpopular opinion: i have a lot of opinions on both theories and interpretations of scenes i personally view differently than i have seen in the tags and that should probably be another post on this own. one thing i will say for this segment because there's been a lot of both completely accusatory and treating him with kiddy gloves. i do think azune, like thjazi will prioritize the cause above all else and i don't think he regrets that. i don't even think the lies by themselves when it comes to survival weigh him down. i don't think he's tormented by lies he has to say to einfasen specifically, the constant pretend of being someone with different beliefs than he has hurts. i think what causes his conflict and breakdown is 1. that his position required him to be far more isolated than for example cyd was. he can't hold connections with rebels/he can't build anything real with anyone outside that. something he notes in his level up is that he feels for the first time in years like people have his back. it's the lack of connection that hurts. and 2. it's the fear of how those lies or actions he did will affect the perception of him that the people he holds in high regard have of him. and causing him to uphold that distance in a destructive circle if that makes sense. it's not coincidence he broke down after his lies and the blood on his hands after mayali said she remembered her little brother when 5 days go he one-shoted a crow keeper with no remorse.
song i associate with them: there is an official playlist, and i'm generally not the best at picking out songs for characters. that being said, fist love/late spring by mitski and butchered tongue by hozier are the first songs i've added in a attempt to make a playlist for him.
favorite picture of them: i've seen sm beautiful fanart it'd be a unfair to name just one.
