To ask a little about the history of Solaris, since you mentioned you've been looking into all that recently;
Are there any particular events in this history whose 'facts' or narratives have become disputed between various groups or people in Sol? What groups are they, and what are the contemporary stakes of such a historical controversy?
Any celestial body that has reached hydrostatic equilibrium (ie, become round), and has a population, choses one woman born on the planet to become its keystone, a godlike figure who embodies the will of the planetoid.
There was a wide alliance among these keystones during antiquity, and they remained powerful long after that alliance fell apart. Today that period is often called the Tyranny of the Godqueens, because the keystones lost. Institutions were built to surpress or control them, and those institutions often became the most powerful and influential organizations on their respective planet.
It's pretty clear why those institutions would be invested in maintaining that narrative. But on the other hand, godlike powers doesn't exactly bring out the best in people.
