He's probably done a little too much research on the day, delving into the topic and how to properly execute it. He wanted it to be done right, that's all, properly convey his feelings when he's the furthest from great at it. Handling it doesn't work much better either. It's easier to be angry. To wrap himself up in a fiery emotion that he follows along with and put himself wholly into it.
But, for a month now, all he's wanted to do was something for her. To repay her, in a way, but he hasn't thought deeper into it ( but oh do his nerves shake when he tries. ) Doing this kind of stuff in person seems best ( tossed the thought over to write her a letter in turn, it'd be easier that way, but he doesn't want it to be easy, ) and doing something in public isn't something he really minds either. He doesn't care if people hear him. Not to get ahead of himself — he still needs to ask if she'd even want to spend the day with him.
He's careful with the way he's gripping the gift, shoved into his coat pocket. When he offers her a hey, a wave of a free hand with her opening the door, he immediately pulls it out of his pocket to hold it out to her. "This is, uh... thanks." That's not exactly what he wanted to say, but. He waits for her to open the light blue box, tied together with a neat white ribbon ( something even he could do without alchemy, ) and once she opens it, he opens his mouth once again.
"It's, you know, a hairpin." He starts off, paying careful attention to the volume of his voice so he doesn't yell everything, "I used alchemy to make it, so it should hold up pretty well." Obviously not made from real gold either, considering how it's viewed to transmute it back home. Purely for aesthetic. "And.. Happy White Day."
