Sport in Solidarity.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach today announced the Joint Sport Pledge on behalf of the Sport for Refugees Coalition at the Global Refugee Forum in Geneva, addressing heads of state, ambassadors, refugees and the wider humanitarian sector. The pledge commits USD 45 million to benefit 500,000 displaced people.

India commemorates National Solidarity Day on October 20 to honour the soldiers who fought during the Sino-Indian War of 1962. This significant day marks the national integrity displayed by India in its conflict with China.

He was joined by Ms. Jessica Frank, Chairperson of the NGO Committee on Ageing to the United Nations and a youth practitioner, who spoke on the application of intergenerational solidarity in projects and programmes.

Strengthening of international solidarity and cooperation is indispensable for the realization of the Millennium Development Goals.
In the Millennium Declaration world leaders identified Solidarity as one of the fundamental values essential to international relations in the twenty-first century and emphasized that “Global challenges must be managed in a way that distributes the costs and burdens fairly in accordance with basic principles of equity and social justice. Those who suffer or who benefit least deserve help from those who benefit most.” In the context of globalization and the challenge of growing inequality, the strengthening of international solidarity and cooperation is indispensable for the realization of the Millennium Development Goals.
