here is a tiny bit more from my current au :3 edward is a good normal responsible partner and he CAN be trusted alone in his house with his ex while his fiance is away

Edward can’t help the small sound of disapproval that leaves him when he sees the state of Solomon’s knees. 

“Sorry. I should’ve given you something to kneel on out there.” 

Solomon only snorts, doesn’t look up from where he’s working up a soapy lather on one of his biceps, fresh, glittery suds coating his black and white tattoo sleeve. 

“Bit of soil never killed anybody,” he mumbles. 

Humming, noncommittal, Edward touches the tip of his thumb to his lips anyway, and stoops. A quick swipe across Solomon’s knee tells him that the filth isn’t going to shift without a fight; the angle he’s stood at is awkward, anyway, but when he moves to stand up straight again, he feels a hand on his shoulder. 

Edward glances upwards, just so, and catches Solomon’s gaze. Neither of them surrenders – Solomon presses down with his palm, and, slowly, Edward kneels.

Hell Is In Pittsburgh Tonight

I.

It almost felt like the Before. Before the oil dried up. Before war, pestilence, famine, and death became old drinking buddies instead of harbingers of the end. Before Hickey fashioned herself the savior of the poor, huddled masses. When there were still lights at night and it was easy to visit his family in Detroit. Now Detroit was an impossible walk and even the days started to feel dark.

II.

A battered man moved cautiously across the clearing. His honey-brown hair was long, beard unkempt. When Edward met his gaze, his one good eye darted wildly, as if he were a hunted animal. The other was gone, blood trailing down his cheek like a Grecian mourner.

“What happened? Who did this?” Ed gasped, moving to help.

The man didn’t speak a word. He raised a sure and steady finger, pointed straight at Edward’s heart.

here's a snippet from my new solittle au ft mild infidelity YAY

Sol’s got one hand on Edward’s bicep and the other cupping the small of his back, loose enough to allow for some plausible deniability were anyone to walk in, which they won’t. 

Edward barely notices the way Sol sways them both to the music, humming low under his breath. 

“I have a dishwasher to empty,” Edward murmurs, unable to remember the last time he’d felt shy in his own home. Of course it would be Sol. 

True to form, his protest is weak, and he finds himself shifting to drape both arms languidly around Sol’s neck. 

“Shame,” Sol tuts, not bothering to act like he cares. 

“I’m also engaged. So I don’t think you should be flirting with me.” 

Sol cocks his head and pouts. The movement dislodges a few stray waves of hair that flop to the side like a spaniel’s ears. 

“Aw,” he breathes. “Kick me while I’m down.”

here is some messy solittle drama that no one asked for.....fellas is it gay to marry a man and then spend the entire marriage thinking about another man who is in turn thinking about a different man but also still thinking about you

Sol takes his hand from the railing, lets the chipped black paint scrape the insides of his fingers without stopping to feel it. 

“Listen. If we draw a line under all of this…if we never get back together–” 

“We’re not getting back together,” says Edward, with none of the conviction to look Sol in the eye. 

“Then you’re going to think about me for the rest of your life!” Sol spits back. “You’re going to think about me when you can’t sleep, or right before you cum, or on your fucking wedding day. You know you are, Edward.”

From behind them, something stirs within the house; there’s the distant clanging of pots and pans, the low hum of a kitchen radio that’s just been turned on. The both of them linger there for a moment, Sol’s eyes trained on Edward, Edward’s eyes glued to the ground, as if they’re waiting for the sound of Tom’s voice. Nothing comes. He’ll call Edward inside eventually, though, and Sol wants to doubt whether Edward might go to him even though he knows that he will. 

Sol nods towards the open back door. 

“If you really love him, then maybe you should think about whether or not you’re willing to do this to him.” 

Finally, a sign of life from Edward, a flicker of something across his worried features as he glances up at Sol through thick, dark lashes. 

“I’m not following you now,” he murmurs. 

Regrettably, Sol’s convinced that he’s never wanted to hate Thomas Jopson more than he does right here and right now, when he’s got Edward alone in the garden with the sun setting behind him, his eyes bottomless tar pits, his face carrying the weight of several universes. Too tired to run from the truth for once. 

Sol doesn’t, though. He’s never hated Thomas in a way that matters. He’s never had to, knowing all of the things he knows, feeling the vice grip he still holds over Edward without really having to try.

“You’re about to sign him up to a lifetime of this.” Sol gestures between himself and Edward. “You’re about to sign him up to a lifetime of you still loving me. You don’t do that to someone you love. Do you, Edward?”

terrible evil wip wednesday

ok @maidward tagged me last week and i forgor to do it and then @sgtjakes tagged me this week YAYYY thank you both :3

this is BAD and im not kidding but im very Unwell it's the best i can do. i promise the ending comes off way more cheesey here than it does in the actual scene.......things do not end up going how it appears based on this part alone lmao anyways. a little snippit from my modern solittle au featuring weird messy terrible poly dynamics with hickey and jopson (and dundy and tommy armitage lowkey) WOOF WOOF

“No-one understands it,” Edward breathes into Sol’s shoulder, into the soft, grey fabric of his sweat-stained t-shirt. “No-one understands why you’re still with him. D’you know that?” 

Sol’s breath hitches, his fingers gripping Edward’s waist tighter. If Edward were a braver man he’d do the sensible thing, guide Sol’s hands somewhere more appropriate, his shoulders, maybe, the tops of his arms. Is that any better, when the intent is just the same? 

“Dunno what you mean.” Sol’s voice is muffled against the skin of Edward’s neck. 

“Why keep going back to him?” Edward asks. “You could do so much better than him. I mean, no offence, but...everyone sees it.”

After a moment Sol shifts again, sniffs and pulls back just enough to meet Edward’s gaze. He’s no right to look the way he does, curls damp and plastered to his forehead, eyes blown wide, sweat glittering on the pink highs of his cheekbones. 

“He loves me,” says Sol. Flat and empty, like he’s telling Edward the time. 

“No he doesn’t.” 

Edward knows the drink is getting to him. He’d never say a thing like that sober, never in a million years. Or he'd at least let it stew in his mind for a bit before going and blurting it out.

Sol is staring him down. There’s that crease again, cutting straight through the middle of Sol's brow, darkening his features. 

“How the fuck would you know?” he asks. There’s no venom in it, really.

Shrugging, Edward lets his eyes wander downwards, across the crumpled plains of Sol’s camo jeans, the studs on his belt. 

“Because I do,” Edward says. “I love you.”
