@solravki said : ❝ what does it matter if you gain the world if you lose your humanity? ❞
« does humanity matter that much? » she asks without hesitation, blue eyes turning toward the grisha, her stare as profound as a bottomless pond in which one knows not to approach too closely, in fear of losing oneself in the picture painted by the ricochets on the water. « the world is quite big, and "i" is such a small concept. » the beginning of a smile, growing, as her fingers tap on the table between them ; once, twice, thrice. « sacrifices have been made for far less, you know. »
16, 18 and 21!
∗ 16﹕ is there a recognizable pattern in your taste in characters ?
this one is reallyyyy hard. i would say that i'm particularly attached to the women whose issues revolve around their need for power and/or a conflict with their feminity, in terms of relationships or even self-image. i love talking about womanhood and how it's not just one concept, but a myriad of different things that might not translate the same way from one character to the next. i also have a soft spot for the charming witty characters (thinking about nikolai or jaskier here) and for the grumpy assholes (ronan lynch, my love). in general, my taste in characters is either i feel like you so i can write you or i want to be like you so i want to understand you.
∗ 18﹕ which of your verses or arcs is your favorite to write about ?
witcher verse for sure, and more specifically her black sun arc, that i don't get to write often. she lost everything she held dear, she is lost and angry and violent and definitely on the verge of becoming a villain, and instead of choosing mercy, she decides to get her revenge. and it's like this "good for her" moment, mixed with the fact that she is becoming what everyone was afraid she would become. i'm so excited by the idea that ishtar, who has always tried to not be the monster people thought she was, who has started to believe malborne when he said that her power is a blessing and not a curse... well, she says fuck it. she says, if they want a monster, i'm going to give them one. and by doing so, she becomes not only what she was terrified to become, but that also somehow justifies a posteriori what was done to her. there's this like, circularity of time, and you're left to wonder : what her abuse justified since she finally became exactly what they said she would become, or was her abuse the reason she became exactly that? and it's a tough question because the potential of being the black sun was there from the start, it just needed to be unleashed. ANYWAY. i love this arc and will never shut up about it.
∗ 21﹕ what is one thing you love about your muse , & one thing you dislike ?
ishtar is not a good character, her first instinct is not to help people and she has no heroic bone in her body. but i love how complex that makes her. her intentions are sometimes as simple as "i wanted to do that" but it never comes from being a genuinely good person. there are hidden intentions, and i feel like that makes her a complex character, and writing is always fun because i get to dive into these intentions, and sometimes they're not even things i would have thought about or decided in the first place. the one thing i dislike, though, is that it's really difficult to create meaningful relationships with other people because ishtar's main characteristic is that commitment is really hard and terrifying for her and she avoids it a lot. so when trying to plot, i always have to find the one little detail that makes ishtar stay, because otherwise the relationship (be it platonic or romantic) would not happen.
∗ 26﹕ who was your very first muse ? would you consider writing them now ?
send me stuff and I'll answer your questions with the best of my dumbass ability.
26 : WHO WAS YOUR VERY FIRST MUSE ? WOULD YOU CONSIDER WRITING THEM NOW ? oh god this is such a cringey weeabo answer but kenshin himura from the rurouni kenshin series, one of my favourite animes of all time. old anime just hit different at the time and it was a surprisingly good action thing with important themes on life and death and morality. I still have his old archive up somewhere and go back when I need a laugh, and I have been thinking on writing him for a while as I’ve done so twice in the past few years.
@solravki : ❜ you can still be good. ❜
soft insides, jelly like organs beneath skin though exterior stays harsh, stays the black general, stays the unfeeling, unmovable shield for all the grisha. [ but are you ? are you truly the shield ? how many did you sacrifice ? WHO MADE YOU GOD, choosing who gets to leave and who doesn’t ? ] conscience grates on his nerves, it spews words in her voice, little sol sankta upon his shoulders, plaguing him with doubts, making him so unsure of everything. how long has he not been questioned ? no one, no one dares raise their voice to him, to question that pit of wisdom he is.
&. here she is, appearing out of thin air, pretty face &. daring hues, unafraid : blindingly beautiful. throat is cleared, fingers linking as he looks at her ( wanting, demanding, twisted heart beneath ribcage ). soft, empty chuckle, it falls from his lips, empty of any humor, surprised by her / always, always surprised by her. she’s fresh air in his life, she’s sunlight in the dark night of his existence &. she is not his. fingertips have grazed her, her warmth against his, her power under his control : he nearly had everything he’s ever wanted.
❜ oh solnishko, ❜ coloring his words with mocked disappointment, hiding away the desire for her to be right, for her words to be true. for he has gorged himself on blood, made terrible choices &. been cruel : he has sold whatever soul he had left, crushed any whisper of humanity. aleksandr had to die for the darkling to exist. ❜ do you really think there is any goodness left in me ? ❜ to be mocking, to diminish her to what she should be ( an ignorant little girl ) but his heart is hers &. that traitor would see him at her feet, begging.
