Thank you for being so real about the leak - as someone who works with comms and marketing at a major entertainment company, I personally know how stressful leaks are both for the artist and the people involved on “the other side” of things 😞 I’ve had about five MAJOR leaks that gained global interest in my industry at my time in the company and when it comes to leaks from partners and collaborators (not fan leaks), it’s NOT ON PURPOSE. But vendors do need this information beforehand, some media will also know it under embargo, but sometimes the human factor comes into play and it just sucks. But it’s nobody’s fault. It happens, unfortunately. For example, one time media leaked an announcement before embargo because they had the time zone wrong. Nothing else to do than react, move on, and adapt. It sucks, but it happens far more often than you’d think, both small and big leaks. Sorry for the rant, some of the discourse just enraged me as someone who has been through it…
I'm sorry you had to go through that at work anon - I'm sure it was really stressful.
I have found the discourse around leaks really infuriating (and only getting more so). I have no problem with people listening to leaks. I listen to leaks. My attitude is basically 'if the information is available I am interested in it'. I understand that people who are more motivated by what an artist wants or doesn't want might take a different perspective and think that's perfectly reasonable.
But what I find absolutely baffling is how many people are pro-leak, but won't own their own actions. In particular, people who claim that Louis must have leaked it (with literally zero evidence).
It's just such a weasel justification. People who are listening to leaks, should own their decision. And in particular, should be clear that they'd be prepared to listen to leaks, even if it wasn't what the artist wanted.
