she’s been with the company since she was a freshman in high school ! i’d say that since she’s the visual of ksyd she got scouted on the streets first, but then as she got into training they realized she’s actually a really good dancer ? she had been doing dance for a while and sort of saw it as maybe her ticket back to america ( like to dance for university or something ) –– but it opened this door too and she’s pretty happy with it !
so, that being said she came to sonic when she was 14 years old and now she’s 21, so it’s been a solid 7 years ! she still graduated with her class and everything but she’s been around this ‘idol culture’ for such a long time that it’s sort of engrained in her she thinks ? like it makes her very insecure about herself because she’s always just been comparing herself to others and such.

mina’s an extremely hard worker to the point where she can get tunnel vision sometimes, but in the beginning she was literally doing anything she could to make her debut and for a while she really thought that she was going to debut with valkyrie, but ultimately they decided she was a little too young and a little too soft ! it broke her heart because she got a little taste of it, but didn’t quite cross the finish line. she decided to take it as something that would continue to motivate her further
she began to lose hope for a while because it didn’t seem like sonic was coming out with any other groups that she seemed to fit. to her, it seemed like she was working so hard, but not with a lot of gain ? when ksyd came around, she was really ... thanking the heavens ! if you want to know more about this just ask alkdjalksjd. i just figured it could create some really interesting connections with her.
anyway, she knew that she was going to be the main dancer for the group and dancing is definitely what she was strongest in ( i wouldn’t say that she’s a bad singer, i would say that her voice is unique ), so when her spot was solidified it was as if something had been lifted off her shoulders. ( in case you couldn’t tell, it has practically become her life by now... oops ! someone give her a break ).
a little headcanon that may or may not work is that they didn’t decide on the visual right away ? so mina worked hard on dieting and staying in shape to give herself the best shot at getting another important role in the group ( since she’s been with the company... seven years now... ). when they finally told her that she was going to be the visual, she felt hella Validated ( but she still feels a lot of pressure and can definitely be insecure )
