XI. Sonny Brown

The works of Sonny Brown is one of the boldest and heavier takes on Western Traditional tattooing that I’ve come across. Dominated wholly by black, he creates tattoos that undoubtably survive the test of time, but can be appreciated and marvelled upon equally up close, as from a distance.

What’s the last tattoo (that you completed) that made you feel accomplished? Hmm I would never say I'm accomplished although I do feel like I've moved forward in my tattooing ability but still have a long way to go, there have been a few stages I think where I can personally see a difference & I've found my style of tattooing, I definitely think the tiger head was a step forward for me. On a scale of 1-10, how good of a cook are you? Well it really depends what I'm doing but if it's risotto usually a 10. Do you live life by any motto? Not really all I can say is life's short so don't waste time doing nothing. What is your most used machine? My Dave Bryant liner. How important is painting to your practice? Very, I try & paint as much as I can as it always helps me to look at my paintings when I'm tattooing them & gives me a feel for how I want to line the design. What do you need the most, right now?Apparently an iPad Pro aha. Do you have a vice? There was a point where I was drinking coffee all the time & couldn't stop but now it's every now & again. I smoke weed almost everyday (not all day) but I wouldn't call relaxation a vice ha. What’s your stance on aliens? Aliens? I could go on for hours about conspiracy theories, aliens, 911 & the government but let's not look to deeply inside my head. Where do you want to visit the most, in the world? There's so many places I'd love to visit so I don't really know. What should people always remember about tattooing? Bold will hold & tattoos hurt. What album could you not live without owning? That's a difficult one, probably Underoath - define the great line. Who/what changed the way you saw tattooing? I think when I got to about 19-20 I started to see a huge difference between good & bad tattoos & the people I worked with were all about traditional tattoos which I then fell in love with. What’s your biggest non-tattoo based source of inspiration? I couldn't Honestly say, I don't really look at any other art other than tattoos. What are Sundays best spent doing? Drinking tea, getting high & watching a series.What would you be doing, if you weren’t a tattooer?Haha there's a few things I have in mind but I would've gotten more into body modification. What’s the last book you read? Book? What's that? If you had to be exiled to another planet, what would you choose? I don't know probably Mars? What has tattooing taught you? It's taught me to be patient with people & that everyone bitches about each other. The road to enlightenment is paved with________? Semen... Although I think it's actually authenticity, not imitation.

This link explains how he uses every day actions and ideas to create a performance. I found ti really interesting how he prepares and performs his pieces in a week, I think when we found out we originally was going to have a month for brown we panicked but can you imagine working on a piece in workshops, then on the street studying in 5 days then on the sixth performing to a paying audience. The discipline his actors must have would be incredibly hard to perfect but must be so rewarding once you have mastered it

Censorship in the arts

this website has different reasons for and against censorship of the arts. 

Its really interesting to see how people feel that it should be under the same rules as public speaking, when all forms of art are for the interpretation of the audience so we as actors could say something to get a point across but an audience could see and hear something completely different .

i dont think its fair to Censor any form of art as it is a profession of expression, and if we live in a free country we should be allowed to express ourselves as long as our work brings no harm to a person, if they get offended that is there interpretation of the piece, and has nothing to do with us along as our intent is not to offend people, unless the reason you made the piece is because its  something you would happily be prosecuted for. then your intent for a piece should never be to insult but it should e to thought provoke.

In 1543 the Church decreed that no book could be sold or printed without expressed permission from the church. Charles IX of france also decided 20 years later that nothing could be printed without his permission. 

this began a domino effect where many of the European leaders followed suit. They started a system of licensing by the governments to print and publish. the main reason fro this was to control what Writers and Artists where allowed to say in there work, so it would not threaten the church or the rulers of the time.

(Albert, Norman and Doreen stumbled in towards the bench) Norman: Shall we go and sit down on that bench?

Albert: The brown one?

Doreen: They're all brown!

Norman: Well they weren't all brown!

(Albert, Doreen and Norman arrive at the bench)

Doreen: Scootch over Norman!

Albert: Oh god, my shoes are a bit dusty...

(All 3 sit down slowly at the same time)

Albert, Doreen and Norman: (Laughing together) We all sat down at the same time!

(Albert discreetly falls asleep)

Norman: Look at all this brown, there was never this much brown in our day!

Doreen: I like the colour brown!

Norman: What do you think of the brown Albert? Albert?!...

(Doreen hits Albert with her walking stick to awaken him)

Albert: Oh, oh yes Norm I think it's ridiculous. What about the old days when we went to work in the factory in our black and white suits norm?

Norman: Yes, nothing was brown then.

Doreen: I love the colour brown, it shows equality!

Norman: No it doesn't! In our day, all we wore was black suits and ties.

Albert: Oh yes, oh yes, we used to get all the girls didn't we Norman?

(Doreen and Norman, laugh)

Norman: Look over there, that dog is not brown, it's white!

Doreen: GET HIM!

(Albert, Doreen and Norman rush off the bench to chase the white dog)

Josh Lane.

I enjoyed your character and thought it was very similar to my own, i felt you got your message across very clearly and had thought about your character a lot. i found your piece very persuasive and you had a very clear charisma for what you was saying. I could hear you very well threw out the piece and felt your vocal tone and clarity was very good. i thought you worked very well as an actor in the room and owned your space. i don't remember seeing your logo but do remember your manifesto.

i enjoyed your piece i felt it was a shame that you had to do it during the slow clap stage as i felt it put you off and your piece could have worked better without it. I did feel your message was clear and so the persuading  came with in that. During the piece I sometimes found it hard to hear you but i think that was because the slow clap kind of got the better of you and so it was hard to keep the vocal up when you lost track of what you where saying. Other than breaking out of character every now and again you worked very well as an actor and your character was clear. I can remember your manifesto or logo very clearly.

I enjoyed your piece very much but felt the harshness and aggressiveness  which was hard to be persuaded by I found because you shouted so much i was more inclined to disagree with your character and even argue.  i did however feel you had a lot of charisma in your character and i could here you very clearly because you was so loud. you had a very good stage presence and you included your manifesto and your logo.

I found your piece very easy to listen to and you kept me intrigued, i felt you did very well at adapting to the claps and not letting them put you off completely. I found your very persuasive and your message was made clear and you had allot of charisma. I could hear you clearly all the way threw and you worked very well as an actor in the room. i can remember your manifesto very clearly and I can also remember your logo.

A Bit On How Hitler Became So Powerful

i found this whist researching about how to write a convincing speech and thought it was quite interesting :

1. Keep the dogma simple. Make only 1 or 2 points.

2. Be forthright and powerfully direct. Speak only in the telling or ordering mode.

3. As much as possible, reduce concepts down into stereotypes which are black and white.

4. Speak to people’s emotions and stir them constantly.

5. Use lots of repetition; repeat your points over and over again.

6. Forget literary beauty, scientific reasoning, balance, or novelty.

7. Focus solely on convincing people and creating zealots.

if you do read the rest of the article it is really interesting it is not just about hitler its about Martin Luther King as well and how he used certain techniques when publicly speaking.
