Danse's long-neglected PTSD nets him a week of mandatory leave, much to his chagrin. With nowhere else to go, he heads to Diamond City in the faint hope Piper might have been serious about actually enjoying his company.

Meanwhile, Piper's got some headaches of her own and Danse could be exactly the knight in shining armor she needs. (Metaphorically.)

One week of R&R, awkward flirting, slow burns, and Danse and Piper figuring out what the hell they're doing. Eventual tasteful smut. Cute dates, Nat terrorizing a grown man, and great liberties taken with Diamond City's infrastructure.

LATEST CHAPTER: Nat makes herself clear, Danse makes a plan, Piper makes a move, and then...

For this tag, I'll share the last few lines I wrote of the same fic:

Nat’s eyes trail to the seventh member of their circle, standing stoic and steely. Rusted metal hangs limp from the frame of the power armor. "I hear you, Preston. I might have an idea on how we can keep the Paladin occupied while we're gone."

I was on messenger video call with a friend and I was trying to show her how Danse was stuck in this position forgetting I had these filters or whatever they're called still on 😂😂😂

for the danse/piper ask. do you see them as being more than friends with benefits? how would you see their relationship AFTER blind betrayal?

Oh my yes.

I personally think that pre-Blind Betrayal, “casual” is really the only type of relationship Danse would want-- and the only time he could actually pull one off. Pre-BB he is relatively confident and comfortable with himself. He’s proud of his rank. He’s got a place to belong, a family who appreciates him, and though he has some questions and problems with the BoS, he’s generally happy there and in a good place. But this means he would never step away from the BoS willingly, and would almost never get involved in a more serious relationship (ESPECIALLY not with a civilian who has no intention of EVER joining the BoS, like Piper.) They both might catch feelings pre-BB, but they both would know they’re not going anywhere as long as Danse is dedicated to the Brotherhood.

AFTER Blind Betrayal though? He loses fucking everything. His rank, his family, his pride, his confidence and most of his self-esteem. He’s set completely adrift and doesn’t know who or what he is without the thing that’s defined most of his adult life. It’s a total reversal of before, as I can’t see him being in a casual relationship at all post-BB. Danse frankly hates himself too much to “inflict” himself on anyone else, and wouldn’t have any confidence that he’s worth being loved or even tolerated.

So it’s at this time that I think a more serious relationship would not only work, but be very good for him. Post-BB he desperately needs someone who appreciates him for who he is-- not as Paladin Danse, but as Danse, the man. He needs someone who can see good and worth in him and especially someone who never really thought the Brotherhood was what made him a good man, or even cared much for the Brotherhood at all. Somebody like Piper.

On Piper’s side of things, she’s already extremely supportive of Danse during BB in canon, and this is when they don’t like each other at all. If she and Danse have already hit it off before this, I think her support will be much more tender and personal.

(And uhhhh I may... end up writing this fic too.... can you tell I’ve thought about it..... a bit.....)

Oh man I did. Let me go fix that. Poor Danse. Give me credit though. Most people forget X6 or Strong. I go all the way and forget Danse. That takes skill.
