How to source
I am very aware of the fact that there are many people who post Hetalia art without a source, because they simply do not know how to do it. Well, here's some guide points.
fanpop.com, weheartit.com and zerochan. net, are not proper sources. The majority of artwork posted on these kinds of sites are stolen, and do not give any credit to the original creator. Even on deviantart.com, you have to be careful that you are not sourcing something is not actually from somewhere else. Hint: if you are unsure as to whether someone on DA has really created the work, go to their account and have a look at their previous deviations. If their work is somewhat consistent in terms of art style, it is most likely that it is the real source.
When sourcing something, use a link. It's all very well to state the artist's name, with something along the lines of 'give credit to the artist', but without a link, no-one will be able to verify whether or not they are the real creators or where they have posted this, so please add a link to their work in your sourcing. Note: do not just put something like 'pixiv.com' into the source box, because, well, Pixiv is a bloody big website, and it's not going directly to the artist's page.
If you cannot find a source for a piece of art, there are ways of finding out what it is. Some of you may already be aware of Google's way of sourcing, which is going into Google Images, and clicking this button:
Here, you can choose to either find the source via uploading the image or simply putting in the URL of the picture from the page that you are getting it from:
However, personally, I find that Google doesn't cover everything, so I use a website called SauceNAO.com. Here, you can look up sources for sites like Pixiv. However, to make things a lot easier, I would really recommend downloading the extension which can be found here. What this allows you to do, is to search an image through either SauceNAO, IQBD, TinyEye or Google, by just right clicking and clicking on either one of the links:
This means that you can search a vast amount of sites so you can find the original source.
If you want further information or some tips to how to use it to your full advantage, please look here.
4. There will be instances in which you cannot find the source. Should this happen, you can either post the piece of art that you have, and ask people to put in a source, should they be able to find it, but, what I would recommend, is just don't post it in the first place. Yes, it is good to share the wonderful artwork that we, as a fandom, have to offer, but it is not worth you putting out more copies of a piece of artwork, which could have been stolen onto so many other websites.
