Chapter 1, Page 4: Raising a Sleeping Honne (Part 1/2)

The air was disturbed.The flow of time was disrupted.

The massive ‘monster’ towered in the middle of the school campus.

The murky haze that, up until now, covered everything, spread up into the air, appearing to coil around the ‘monster’.

The headphones were not some excuse.They were merely a lid to seal in Tsukasa’s ability.

If the headphones were disconnected, problems wouldn’t immediately arise.

But now, the ‘monster’ had been birthed into reality.

Without something to block them out, words pour into Tsukasa’s head, and the monster floods out from there.

Tsukasa clicked his tongue.Everyone lined up in front of the gate collapsed. 

Tsukasa didn’t know whether they were unconscious, or asleep under the influence of the monster’s underlings. 

There didn’t seem to be anyone injured, which was a relief for Tsukasa.

He didn’t want to involve someone unrelated.

“Hey! I’m over here!”

At once, he decided to jump out in front of the monster, drawing its attention.

His aim was to call the monster to himself.

Tsukasa was the monster’s adversary.

The monster was his.The monster relentlessly aimed its chains at Tsukasa.

They hit, scraping his sides, grazing his arms, and gouging his feet.His vision turned red.

It wasn’t clear whether it was blood or the color of the very space itself. Tsukasa thought it over.

Either way, the situation was hazardous.

Again he thought it over...The origin of this monster, this “Tatemae”, was a person.

It was a lucky guess, but he was quickly losing sight of it.

Unless he could figure it out with certainty, and quickly, that person would also be hurt.

A desk fluttered out of a classroom and whirled mid-air.

It seemed that the monster had the ability to manipulate things made from iron.“Just how much resentment has been built up?”

He would ask the monster, but it would only respond with unintelligible howls and violent attacks.

“Regulationrulesrulestardyextensionextensionquestionsubject――”

The enemy’s voice, it was a word he had heard somewhere.

While somehow avoiding the flying chains and desks, and without the appearance of anyone else, Tsukasa reached the school grounds through the vanished gate.

Concealing himself behind shelter, he slowed his breathing in preparation. The monster froze, appearing to have lost sight of him.

“I should remember soon… The significant words of someone who doesn’t know who they are.”

Tsukasa shook off the pain of his injuries, smiling purposefully.

“That monster can get lost. Now I’m going to teach you a lesson.”He wasn’t planning on running away forever.

He was going to fight.Tsukasa had the means to fight. However, it was insufficient in its current state.

A weapon was required. So was the cooperation of the monster’s origin.

From out of there,“What is it?! Hey...”It was the school prefect.

Tsukasa was unable to see her face clearly, as it was hidden behind a stagnating cloud.

Even so, it was clear she was directly under the monster. Noticing she was standing in a shadow, she looked up in astonishment.“What is this!”Trembling, she looked around, her eyes finding Tsukasa.

“Ask.”

“What do we do about this?”While gazing up at the monster intently--- she smiled faintly.
