there was something about a festival in the face of past supernatural events that talbot could not pass up. well, that and the free food. but obviously, octavia had to have something planned. it was just her nature. he just hoped it didn’t have anything to do with the cherry pie he’d scooped up. among other things, t was aware he should keep up appearances at least as long as the imperium society needed reminding of who they had sacrificed to enjoy a cozy night full of bullshit.

“anyone happen to have a fork? they seem to have plenty of plastic knives around here, so at least we’ll be able to recycle them after we’re done stabbing people in the back, eh?”

open starter !!  + the masquerade

THE LAST PARTY SHE ATTENDED had been less than ideal in a number of ways. she’d done drugs in the bathroom, indulged in spiked punch, and mended a drunk girl’s broken shoe, effectively missing valuable time to lobby for a crown she’d ultimately been glad had not been hers at the end of the night. although -- of course -- she did not regret the latter. she’d not gotten to dance; to slink about as a luminescent wraith, a queenly wisp of blue silk; to cast off the shackles of the preconceived and entirely false notion that she’d return to school, sans best friend, anything less than herself. at the last party she attended, she had narrowly avoided disaster by instead creating another one -- she would be avoiding seances, ouija boards, and theresa at all costs, if only to avoid acknowledging the doubt that had made it so difficult to focus for days previous.

difficult to focus, too preoccupied for academics and social pleasantries. but never too preoccupied for a chance at an entrance.

and so she makes one, mask donned and ostentatious black gown sweeping along behind her. the clutch grasped in purple-painted fingers contains cabernet sauvignon, and not hard liquor. iskra gill learns from her mistakes. tonight, she intends to be entirely LUCID, to see everything. and so she wipes the remnants of her first indulgence from the corner of her lips, and descends into the fray, eyes set upon the sea of masks that awaits. 

“you could be anyone, couldn’t you?” she lilts, her voice light, playful, with forced nonchalance; too much hangs over their heads to feel any real levity here, “i love a good mystery.”

THE WINTER FORMAL. 

an annual tradition at ashcroft, the winter formal is perhaps the biggest event on campus of the year – no one cares about sports quite as much as they care about free-flowing champagne, expensive ballgowns, and sparkling winter-themed decorations. the ballroom is decorated with ice sculptures, dazzling glass snowflakes, and twinkling lights. the first portion of the evening is usually devoted to traditional ballroom dance ( classes are offered in the weeks leading up to students who might need them ) and then the second half is more modern music. what happens at the end of the night ? THE CORONATION. at midnight, ashcroft crowns the snow queen, whose main role is generally to coordinate the end-of-year dance, but it’s mostly fairly symbolic. the title of snow queen does mean a lot to PAST snow queens though, so there are connections to be gained – i suppose. but let’s face it. it’s a popularity contest and a catchy title. 

the winter formal event will begin on the dash on thursday, january 30, at 4pm EST and last for about a week. feel free to plot event threads with people. to make it spicy and incite that gossip-girl-esque drama we all love, every member will get a task to complete ! do NOT tell other members what your task is, just try to make that event happen in your threads. if it doesn’t, no big loss, it’s just a game...right ?

additionally, your characters will get to cast their ballots for the snow queen. there will be three nominees and three potential outcomes for the post-event plot drop – based on who is voted as ashcroft’s snow queen. the ballot will be posted later this week by the school’s newspaper and your characters are intended to vote IN CHARACTER for who they’d like to win the title. the winner will be announced at the end of the event with a big plot drop. while there are only three characters involved in this plot drop, please know that there are plot drops planned to highlight and fuck with every muse, so !!! love you all !!!

Fights Break Out at Winter Formal

This year’s Winter Formal was especially pivotal for members of Oberon Ashcroft’s Imperium Society. Expected to be model students for their peers, these students were the source of several brawls on the ballroom dance floor and caused commotion that delayed the results of the coveted Snow Queen announcement. 

Christopher Stanley was seen having a brush-up with Dylan Michaels, which compiled into a fight between August Reyn and Ian McGregor. The group was separated and reprimanded for their behavior, but due to the festivities did not receive any written citation at the time. 

“Their conduct will be reviewed on Monday, but we understand that it is a sensitive time for select students.” This, of course, likely means that Imperium Society students will be getting a pass for their behavior once again and will continue with clean permanent records, despite violently accosting students on the dance floor. This is likely to make rising tensions between Imperium and the rest of the student body rise considerably. 

“He just came at me out of nowhere,” Michaels says of the incident. The rugby player limps slightly and sports a hefty shiner on his left cheek. “Lucky it’s not game season or we’d be fucked. I had to hold back a bit, you know, so I didn’t accidentally fucking kill the guy. Stanley’s pretty scrawny, you know those book-reading types.”

 Stanley and Reyn could not be reached for comment.

Members of the Imperium Society also turn on their own ranks. From the balcony, Christian Bosch and Dante Campana were witnessed fighting on the grounds. This brief Tiktok video (adeptly paired with Pitbull’s Fireball) shows Bosch lunging at Campana practically unprompted. Bystanders could not make out their argument, but from a distance it looked “pretty heated.” When asked, Oberon Ashcroft mentioned this would be “dealt with at the next Imperium meeting.” So, we can expect a swift slap on the wrist for this one as well, right?
