Special Education App/Tool
Thinking about the vast areas of special education, I had a hard time choosing one that I would use in my own classroom. Instead, I looked into an app that my own child could use. The area of focus was on speech and articulation. My son is having articulation errors and I never thought to look for an app to help him improve his articulation until this week.
There were many speech related apps in iTunes, but the app I found was called Articulation Station Pro. It caught my attention from the bright and colorful logo. The reviews made me want to learn more about the app. As with most of the speech related apps, this one had a fee. It was pretty pricey, at $59.99, but if it were being purchased to use with multiple students, it would be beneficial. To purchase for one student, this price would be quite pricey.
Articulation Station Pro seems like a fantastic app to help with speech development. It was created by a Certified Speech-Language Pathologist. It offers a variety of practice with 22 sounds in words, sentences, and stories. When the students master the specific sound, they then move on to other activities. There are 6 different activities, including flashcards, matching, rotating sentences, unique sentences, level 1 stories, and level 2 stories. The app uses real photos that are easy to identify for children.
This app allows recordings to be saved, which is beneficial for students to hear themselves speak. It also allows for data input for many students. Overall, this app appears to be fun, colorful, and engaging to allow students to reach their fullest potential with speech.
