The International Union, Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America (SPFPA™) represents members providing security services across a variety of facilities, institutions and government agencies. This includes the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which many SPFPA™ security professionals work to protect and secure every day. Members of SPFPA™’s DHS Division whose primary focus is to protect the homeland, including such sites as federal and state buildings, IRS buildings, the Ronald Reagan Building, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Department of Agriculture and more.

The International Union, Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America (SPFPA™) was originally known as The United Plant Guard Workers of America (UPGWA), which was first established in 1948. The UPGWA grew significantly over its first five decades, though it was the beginning of the 21st Century that brought about much-needed changes to both the mission and the structure of the International Union.
It was during the 2000 International Convention—and under the mantra of the New Directions for the Union—that the Union’s name was officially changed (SPFPA).
