Season 5 Wishlist: Moment #5
Lena is abducted and/or trapped somewhere and as she grows more desperate to escape, she hallucinates Jack Spheer who helps her keep calm and rational.
If we're feeling fancy, we'd even get a couple of flashbacks of their life in Metropolis before Lex's arrest. Jack staring as Lena arrives at a gala resplendent in her slinky gown and shiny jewelry-- which seem to fade when she smiles at the sight of him.
We see them joking and laughing all throughout the night. It's clear that it's them against the inanity of their elite circle, complete with Jack's horrible impressions but ultimately accurate predictions of what each guest intends to talk about.
We see scenes at home, or in the lab, the way they work seamlessly together, and Jack keeping up with her right up until Lena jumps ahead to a solution, and even when she loses him he just sits back and lets her go, love and pride in every inch of him.
And in the present Lena's growing more and more desperate, until even Jack's calming influence isn't enough.
"I can't DO THIS ANYMORE!" Lena shouts. "I can't."
Jack crouches next to her. "Yes, you can. Do you remember what you told Lex, when he came sniffing after Biomax?"
Lena groans, too frustrated to think.
"You told him to fuck off." Jack grins at her, until she smiles too.
"I remember..."
"That was the day I knew I'd love you the rest of my life," Jack tells her. "I just didn't realize how short a time that would be."
Their eyes meet, full of unspoken regrets. Jack is the first to push the moment aside.
"But right now," he says, "I need you to tell this place-- and whoever put you here-- to go and do the exact same thing."
Lena nods. She nods, and climbs to her feet, flooded with resolve. "Right. Fuck this."
When she's finally out, and stumbling into Kara's and James' waiting arms, Lena shoots Jack a triumphant grin-- only to find him gone. It's only then she seems to remember that he's dead, and was never there to begin with.
"Lena? What's wrong?"
"Nothing," she says, dispelling their concern with a tight smile. But as they bustle her over to an ambulance, she gives her former prison a lingering glance.
Thank you, Jack.
