♥️'d for drunk Jaheira and I'm here to deliver it
Jaheira all but collapsed into the chair beside Minthara, the movement more of a graceless flop than her usual measured composure. She cradled a cup in her hand, the wine within sloshing dangerously close to the rim. Her head lolled to the side, and she blinked at Minthara, her gaze a bit unfocused.
“I miss them, you know,” she murmured, barely loud enough to be heard over the other voices around the table. “My family. Gods, I miss them so much sometimes it feels like…” Her voice trailed off as she stared into the dark liquid in her cup, swirling it lazily. “Like there’s this… void. Right here.” She tapped her chest, her expression distant.
She sighed, leaning back heavily, rocking back in the chair that wasn't supposed to do that kind of movement. “Do you? Miss yours, I mean?” Her tone was soft, almost hesitant, like she wasn’t sure she wanted to know the answer. “I… I imagine you had a family once. Before all… this.” She gestured vaguely, her arm making an unsteady arc through the air.
Minthara uncomfortably eyed the Harper like a distrusting cat observing a toddler that was veering fair too close to its tail. Drunkards were not her favorite thing, she rather hated them, but it was rare to see someone like Jaheira this far gone at least for Minthara anyways.
As the older woman rambled Minthara paid her little mind. With luck she would remember none of this come the morning and Minthara would soon forget it in place of more worthwhile memories. Maybe the assumed assurance of memory loss is what kept her from getting up and walking away, instead humoring the Harper's sorrowful ramblings.
"My mother tried to kill me in infancy," She held no real memory of this but the incident had been enough for her to always have an armed wet nurse with her until the age of six when she could properly hold a mace. "My family was not the...overly loving type. The most care any of them showed me was my sister choosing me as her personal guard at her wedding. Sentimentalism is a weakness that holds no space in my heart nor mind. "
