When you first started dating Michelangelo Scarlatti you thought it was so cool and incredibly hot that he was a member of the Strategic Response Unit. You thought you had hit the jackpot with his dark soulful eyes, that wide toothy grin, and a head full of brain to boot. Today you realized the downside of dating a cop, a bomb defuser.
You watched the screen intently as they talked about the bomb threat on the news. And you realized from the video that Spike’s team was there, you caught sight of his sergeant from the live footage.
When the team walked in the door you could barely contain yourself. You rushed forward and wrapped your arms around Spike as soon as he came into sight. “Whoa!” he staggered back from the force of your hug. “Hey what are you doing here?” You pulled back to look him in the eyes, bewildered. He had black smudges and dirt on his face.
“Are you serious?” Spike stuttered a minute. “Mikey, you were caught in an explosion! I thought I wasn’t going to see you again.” You felt tears welling up, looking down and biting your lip. Spike held your biceps as he glanced at his team before trying to catch your eyes. He gently pulled you into the briefing room for more privacy.
“Who’s that?” Sam asked softly as the other’s approached the front desk.
“Y/N. Apparently, Spike has a girlfriend.” Winnie filled the team in. “She came in scared.”
Ed glanced over at you and Spike in the briefing room smiling, “Mikey.” The others chuckled as the milled around trying not to pry
“Hey, Y/n,” Spike cooed. “Look at me. C’mon.” You looked up into those deep eyes that were searching you. “Talk to me?”
You sniffed, “I was watching when the bomb went off.” You were trying to hold in the tears, “And I thought, I thought.” Spike quickly pulled off his gloves so he could hold your face. Wiping the tears away.
“But I’m not. I’m right here,” He pulled you in close and it was just now you smelled all the dirt, sweat, soot. “Here,” he took off his vest so you could hug him more properly. “I’m okay. Look at me. I’m safe. You’re alright. We are fine. Okay?” He rocked slowly, pressing his nose into your hair.
“I was so scared.”
“Wanna know a secret?” You hummed into his chest. “I was scared too.”
“I love you,” you sighed into his chest.
“Love you too,” He pulled back to give you a kiss on his head. You shook your head pulling back further.
“Mike. I dated a firefighter a bit before you. I was worried about him. Sometimes scared. But never like this,” you mumbled as you rubbed his arm through his shirt. You looked up into his eyes, giving him a hard look. “The thought of living in a world where I couldn’t talk to you, see you. Where I was without you.” You took a breath, “It made me sick. And I don’t want that.”
Spike smiled at you, squeezing your shoulders, before leaning in for a small kiss. “Yeah?” You nodded, smiling up at him. “It makes me sick too.” You stood like that for a minute, smiling at the weight of the words you had both spoken. “Listen, I gotta debrief. You want to wait with Winne? We can go to my place. We can get take out and talk.”
“Yeah,” You whispered pulling away from him. “I’d love that.”
Grinning he pulled back and took your hand. He gently pulled encouraging you to follow. “Y/n, this is my team.” He gestured to the group in front of you. “Guys,” He took a breath. “This is Y/n, my girlfriend of almost a year.” Ed Lane was the first to step forward.
“So you the reason Spike has been skipping out on Guys night? Ed Lane, good to meet you.”
You laughed shaking his hand, “Yeah I am.”
Then Sam stepped up shaking your hand, “Sam. So uh, almost a year and we are just now meeting the girl? What’s up with that?”
“I knew it,” Jules piped up. “You are embarrassed by us!”
Spike sucked in his like a blush creeping across his cheeks. “Guys. Come on.”
You smiled leaning on his arm, standing on your toes and giving him a kiss on a cheek. “Alright, kids stop fighting and get this debrief over with so Spike can take his lovely girlfriend home.”
There were a few dejected, “yes boss,” before they all headed into the brief room. Spike chuckled before giving a chaste kiss, followed by a peck on a cheek.
